Fight on the outskirts of São Januário during the election of Vasco
The president of the STJ, Humberto Martins accepted the request for provisional protection made by Faues Cherene Jassus, Mussa, president of the General Assembly of Vasco, who affirmed that this Saturday’s election compromised the security of the electoral process. Subsequently, the court annulled the decision of Judge Camilo Ribeiro Ruliére, who on Friday night had stipulated the election in person the following day.
Scheduled for 9:00 am this Saturday by Ruliére, the election began at 9:55 am and was scheduled to end at 10:00 pm. At the time of the STJ president’s decision, three ballot boxes were already full, moving to the fourth, which would give around 2,500 votes cast. The judicial decision reached the club shortly before 8:00 p.m., interrupting the voting at 8:25 p.m. There was still a queue outside the venue with about 100 people who wanted to vote.

At 9 p.m., when Mussa had already left, the vice president of the club’s General Assembly, Alcides Martins, decided to resume voting after speaking with the other three members of the board: the president of the Deliberative Council, Roberto Monteiro, the president of the City Council of Beneméritos, Silvio Godói, and the vice president of the Deliberative Council, Sérgio Romay. Voting resumed at 9:15 p.m. in ballot box 5, separate from the four where the votes were cast until the interruption.
The legal vice president of Vasco, Rogério Peres, expressed his concern about the decision to resume voting after the court decision and asked Alcides Martins to record the release of the club’s liability before the resumption decided by the board of directors.
