Base decides again, Santos turns at the end and wins Defense and Justice – 10/20/2020

Santos beat Defensa y Justicia (ARG) 2-1 tonight, in Vila Belmiro, for the last day of the Libertadores group stage. The goals were scored by Lucas Braga and Marcos Leonardo, for Peixe, and Romero for the Argentine club.

With the result, Peixe can finish the first phase of the continental competition as the best first place in the tournament. For that, the black and white needs to wait for Palmeiras to stumble tomorrow (21) against Tigre (ARG) in Allianz Parque.

In the match against the same rival in Argentina, Santos won by the same score and also by turning point, but with a goal from Kaio Jorge. Today it was the other young forward of the squad, Marcos Leonardo, who turned the game around Peixe.

Coach Cuca’s team returns to the field this Sunday, at 4 pm, to face Fluminense, in Maracanã, for the 18th round of Brasileirão.

The best: Lucas Braga

The forward entered the second stage and was fundamental in the victory of Santos. He scored the first goal and helped Marcos Leonardo turn the game around.

Worst: Jean Mota

The Santos midfielder did not play well. Responsible for helping create the midfield, Jean Mota played little in the game and was substituted at halftime.

Game timeline

In the sixth minute of the second half, Defense and Justice came from the right and Pizzini found the perfect center to free Romero to put the net inside the small area and open the scoring.

In the second half, Pará crossed from the right, Lucas Braga turned his head towards the goalkeeper’s defense. However, Wagner Leonardo caught the rebound on the other side and crossed back into the center of the area for Lucas Braga, who was unforgiving and tied the duel.

Marcos Leonardo turned to Peixe 45 minutes into the second half after a Lucas Braga cross.

Santos performance: maximum strength works

Even classified and with the guaranteed first place, coach Cuca climbed with maximum force in search of the first position of the general. On the field, the line-up paid off and Peixe was better during the first half and could have opened the scoring. However, in the second stage, it fell out of production and saw Defense take the lead. The team created opportunities, but Kaio Jorge failed to finish off in the networks. Lucas Braga was the one who managed to draw and then helped Marcos Leonardo turn.

But it makes Peixe pay the price: Jobson is suspended

Midfielder Jobson hung onto the field with two yellow cards and was in danger of being missed out of the first round of the knockout stages. In the first half, shirt 8 fouled, received the penalty and will carry out the automatic suspension. Cuca bet on the player because he saw the team with too many problems in the lineup and wanted to guarantee the victory to be able to decide the maximum number of playoffs at home.
