After visiting the hotel where Flamengo is staying in Guayaquil, the Ecuadorian health authorities granted an interview saying that they banned the Monumental stadium, the scene of the match against Barcelona, this Tuesday, for the Libertadores. In this way, the match would be suspended. The mayor of Guayaquil, Cynthia Viteri, however, used her Twitter account to deny the closure of the site.
There is an impasse between the Ecuadorian authorities. Conmebol has yet to comment.

In an interview at the Flamengo hotel, Carlos Luis Salvador, Guayaquil’s director of health and hygiene, affirmed that the stadium is closed and that he would not receive the game on Tuesday.
– Today, the Monumental stadium is deactivated. At least in this stadium today there will be no football match between Barcelona and Flamengo. We sent a letter to Conmebol – said Carlos Luis Salvador.
Shortly after, Flamengo vice soccer player Marcos Braz said he was waiting for confirmation from Conmebol.
– Flamengo respects and complies with the determinations of the local authorities. They said the stadium can no longer host a soccer game. We will hope that the official communication from Conmebol returns to Brazil – said the leader.
The Flamengo delegation, however, did not have an impasse between the Ecuadorian medical and political authorities. The city’s mayor, Cynthia Viteri, denied the information about the stadium’s ban.
– The Monumental stadium is not prohibited. We are awaiting the declaration of the Minister of Health to establish whether the game will take place or not. We will follow the protocol recommended by the Ministry – published by the mayor.
THE MONUMENTAL STADIUM IS NOT DISABLED.
We are awaiting the pronouncement of the Minister of Health, depending on whether or not today’s match takes place.
We will follow the protocol that the Ministry indicates.
The National Emergency Committee said it was in favor of keeping the game in compliance with the isolation protocol for athletes who tested positive. However, it is recognized that the interdiction capacity of the Monumental stadium is the responsibility of the Guayaquil authorities.
– Our opinion is that the approved protocol is fully respected and complied with. And the protocol does not speak of suspending the matches, but of what the procedures are in positive cases, which must be kept isolated. Negative players can participate in the match. We know that risk will always exist – said Alex Anchundia, undersecretary of the National COE.
