“We work, we put the best available team on the field for each game … What else can I do?” Asked coach Ronald Koeman, at the post-game press conference.

It was the first time that coach Diego Simeone beat Barcelona at the head of Atlético de Madrid for the Spanish Championship. Since 2012, there have been 11 losses and six draws. The winning goal was the result of a mistake by the German goalkeeper Ter Stegen, who came out very badly from the area and left the goal open for Carrasco to make it 1-0.

– We tried our best to try to draw. We didn’t have many, but at least one chance to equalize in the second half. It is always difficult against Atlético de Madrid. His goal was our fault because, in the first half, with the possession of the ball, we lost and took it 1 to 0. That cannot happen – commented Koeman.

In eight games of this edition of the Spanish Championship, Barcelona have won three, drawn two and lost three, with 15 goals scored and nine conceded.

– Like any coach, I am responsible for the results of the team, the maximum responsible. You have to keep trusting the players I have, but you have to improve defensively and also in attack. I am not worried about the championship or the classification. We need to win a series of games.

If it is a consolation for the fans, despite the bad start, Barcelona coach Johan Cruyff ended up winning the Spanish Championship and also the Champions League in the 1991/1992 season.

Piqué suffers a knee sprain

Defender Gerard Piqué sprained his right knee during the loss to Atlético de Madrid. Barcelona’s medical team said they will undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury, but the possibility of torn ligaments was ruled out.

In addition, midfielder Sergi Roberto suffered a muscle injury to the quadriceps of his right thigh. It will also undergo further testing in the coming days. Barcelona returns to training on Monday, and on Wednesday they face Dynamo Kyiv for the Champions League.
