Band and Conmebol sign agreement to create pay-per-view for Libertadores in Brazil

Band and Conmebol closed on Sunday morning (13) an agreement for the transmission, on pay TV, of the Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana. But the form of exhibition will be different and unprecedented in Brazil, combining the entity, together with Newco, the pay TV division of Grupo Bandeirantes, and FC Diez Media, a joint venture between IMG and Peform that produces content for contests on social networks. . This group will establish a pay-per-view channel to offer matches that would not be shown in the country until then. The premiere will be next Tuesday (15).

The information was initially published by Machine do Esporte and confirmed by sports. The initiative is unprecedented and, in this package that will be offered to the public, they will have the games that were until then from Sportv on pay TV, before Globo terminated the contract that it had until 2022.

In total, just for the Libertadores, there will be about 27 exclusive games only in the group stage. Copa Sudamericana matches on pay TV will also be broadcast on this system from October, when the tournament resumes.

This South American agreement, however, does not prevent the television window from opening. The report found that RedeTV! and Conmebol continue talking about games in the second most important competition on the continent. News is possible in the coming weeks.

Initially, clients of Net / Claro and Sky, the two largest pay TV operators in Brazil, will initially charge the new subscription initiative. Negotiations are also taking place with Vivo.

Sources say that the value is not yet closed, but it will be below what it charges, for example, Premiere, a pay-per-view service for the Brazilian Championship produced by Grupo Globo. Conmebol’s intention with the initiative is to increase revenue from contests, since the entity lost money with the recent termination of the contract with Globo and DAZN for both contests. On this premium channel, in addition to games, Band will make and produce shows.

For Band, it is another positive point. The station recovers its sporting tradition and will revive, starting on the 20th of this month, the sports marathon “Show do Esporte”, which will show the German and Italian championships, as well as the women’s and U-20 Brasileirão. The presentation will be given by Glenda Kozlowiski, ex-Globo and who had a quick passage through SBT, and Elia Júnior, who commanded the attraction in its classic phase at Morumbi station, in the 80s and 90s.

In Conmebol’s pay-per-view, Disney and Facebook contract games will not be available. Some but not all matches shown on SBT will be broadcast. Silvio Santos’ channel will broadcast Libertadores on open TV with Palmeiras and Grêmio next Wednesday (16).

Disney kept its contract and will show Libertadores with exclusive matches starting Tuesday. Facebook lost the exclusivity of all the games on Thursday, but continues with games that are only shown on the social network, with transmission from the Interactive Sport team.

Among the games that will already be broadcast with certainty on the PPV service starting on Tuesday (15) are the commitments involving Santos and Athletico Paranaense. The matches of Flamengo and Grêmio, but the next rounds are also planned.
