Atlético-MG even went ahead, after the first half of total dominance by Black, but ended up taking the turn of the heroic Bahian in the second stage, and with that lost the opportunity to regain the leadership of the Brazilian Championship. Tonight (19), Galo lost to Tricolor de Aço and lost 3-1 at the Pituaçu stadium, in Salvador, in a match on matchday 17.
The favorable result for Galo until the 23rd minute of the second half took Internacional and Flamengo off the table, but the Bahian turn was completely favorable to gauchos and cariocas, who remain in first and second place, respectively. Atlético-MG is third.
It should be remembered that the team and Jorge Sampaoli still have one game less, since they did not play on matchday six, against Atlético-PR, for the final matches of the Mineiro Championship.
Who did it well: Daniel and Gilberto
Until the moment when the Atlético-MG defense came out of the game unscathed, defender Réver had a constant presence in the Bahian area. Very participatory, the captain was in charge of assisting the forward Savarino, who scored the first goal. On the sides of the attack, the Venezuelan gave defensive Salvador a lot of work. But that was only in the first half. In the second stage, everything was different.
The defender would be a prominent name, but ended up being replaced at halftime after complaining of “a small muscle problem”. This change was crucial for Bahia. That’s where the story of Daniel and Gilberto comes in, for the local team.
On the Bahian side, midfielder Daniel had an outstanding performance, mainly due to the scored goal. Versatile, Daniel was inside the area to catch the rebound on forward Gilberto’s free kick.
And the Tricolor striker himself deserves mention for the return goal, after taking advantage of the gigantic shit from right-back Guga, and for the shot that put the final numbers to the game: 3 to 1.
Who was wrong: Guga and Junior Alonso
After a forceful first half, Atlético-MG, surprisingly, lowered production in the second half. And it was a sudden fall, which affected the performance of Júnior Alonso and Guga.
The Paraguayan defender committed a foul at the entrance to the area that provided the first goal for Bahia. Right-back Guga made a big mistake and gave Gilberto a chance to spin. And the forward still had time to score his second of the night, Bahia’s third.
Wrinkled rooster, but delivered
Nothing worked for Bahia in the first half and Salvador’s team was fully pressured by Galo. As the Bahian team could not win the field and was trapped for the first time in the defensive field, the match until then was completely dominated by Atlético-MG.
Galo played his game, held the ball in the attack field and “put” Bahia in defense, which limited any offensive action taken by the locals. With strong power up front, much for the return of the speedy Savarino, Atlético-MG did what they wanted.
With total dominance, it was not long before the scoreboard opened. At 20 minutes into the first half, the Venezuelan striker shook the Bahia nets. After a cross pass in the area, defender Réver managed well for “Savaliso”, nickname given to Savarino, who came kicking for Douglas’ goal: 1 to 0.
Atlético-MG dominated all actions and it seemed that the second goal would come at any moment. But the team lost many offensive chances and returned to the second half without defender Defender, who was an important player in defensive balance.
Heroic bay
And Rooster missed Réver. Bahia liked the game and it surprised him. Daniel and Gilberto gave another tone to the Bahian team, which surprises and causes the Minas Gerais team to plummet in the standings.
With a heroic second half of improvement, Bahia did what many believed impossible. In fact, the first part of Mano Menezes’ team, sanctioned and replaced on the bench by Cláudio Prates, was terrible. But the changes in the interval changed the direction of the Tricolor, which in addition to surprising the leader, takes the Gallo out of first place after seven rounds.
