The first cell phone of Nokia’s new contract to land in Brazil begins to sell today (3), in a few hours. After being approved by Anatel, Nokia 2.3 begins to be sold on the online channels of HMD Global and Multilaser.

The arrival of the first mobile phones of the new Nokia initiative in Brazil in May was confirmed, first hand in AllCell, by the CEO of Multilaser, Brazilian partner of HMD Global, in an exclusive interview. The information was confirmed by Juan Olano, director of the HMD Global portfolio for the Americas, and Junior Favaro, director of marketing and sales for HMD Global in Brazil, in another exclusive conversation with AllCell.

Nokia 2.3 represents the fourth generation of the Nokia 2 line. In the interview, Olano explains Nokia’s criteria for naming its devices.

We have several families, ranging from the Nokia 1 Nokia 9 line, and then comes a second number, which is the generation of each device, so it is Nokia 2.3, the fourth generation of the Nokia 2 line, positioned in a input range.

Juan Olano, HMD Global Portfolio Director for the Americas

Also according to Olano, despite having received the update for Android 10 internationally, the model arrives in Brazil with Android 9, due to the need to carry out tests with Brazilian networks. However, this shouldn’t be a problem, as Nokia promises an Android 10 update in the coming weeks and an Android 11 update later this year or early 2021, in addition to monthly security updates. According to the company, other devices in the same category made by competitors do not receive the same care in updates.

The first version that consumers will receive next week will be Android 9, but only a few weeks and they will receive Android 10 and, at the end of the year, or maybe in early 2021, they will receive Android 11. We need to test everything in Brazil Consumer is very important to us, so before launching the update to Brazil, we must do all the tests with the local operators and make sure there are no problems. But it will happen in the coming weeks.
Juan Olano, HMD Global Portfolio Director for the Americas

The bets to beat the fierce competition in the input devices are the positioning of the prices, below R $ 1000, constant updates that keep the device safe and a design that has a metallic construction, using materials that guarantee greater resistance , a brand that has always introduced Nokia products.

The models are participants in the Android One initiative, which has an operating system and a user interface that come directly from Google, giving the user the closest possible experience of Pure Android outside the Pixel line.

One thing we are trying to democratize technology with is that we are incorporating entry level technologies that only existed in high standard products. The two main points, in addition to normal technologies, are the design first […] purer and with different colors, and we have a lot of quality and resistance, with all the characteristics of durability that the consumer can expect.

Cameras and artificial intelligence

HMD Global also highlights that, despite being an entry phone, Nokia 2.3 has artificial intelligence functions in its set of rear cameras, 13MP and 2MP and also HDR. The spokesperson says that when taking a photo, the model captures three to seven images, and each of them will have a different setting, such as aperture and shutter speed.

The machine combines the factors to provide the best configuration to the final image, with more definition in the clearest areas and reducing noise and darkness. There’s also the “Recommended Photo” feature, which shows which image is better after holding the button down for a while, plus different portrait mode experiences.

Also remarkable is the 4000 mAh battery, which is also managed by artificial intelligence, through Google’s adaptive battery function, which monitors the cell phone and learns the habits of the user.

Bet on cockroaches

HMD Global and Multilaser opted for Nokia 2.3 as the first of this return to Brazil for the possibility of practicing aggressive prices, associated with products officially sold in the country, with technical assistance and warranty, according to Junior Favaro, the company’s representative in Brazil.

Our strategy is because, last year, we had a market of 22.1 million devices in the price range of R $ 700 to R $ 1099, so we have a great opportunity in an extremely important price range. This segment, between 2018 and 2019, grew by 33% in Brazil, so we wanted to offer an affordable product, with an important price range and with a lot of quality and product differentials.

More models in Brazil?

When asked about more models: Multilaser spoke about two other devices that arrived in the country; HMD Global’s representative in Brazil guaranteed that more models will arrive, positioned in other price ranges, but avoided specifying which ones will be launched in the sequence.

What I can assure you is that Brazil is an extremely strategic market for HMD Global, at the moment we are focusing a lot on Nokia 2.3, but I can assure you that we will work in different price ranges, in the medium and long term, and soon I can share this information with you in more detail.
Junior Favaro, Marketing and Sales Director of HMD Global in Brazil

Despite avoiding the representative of HMD Global, it is known that two other cell phones will come soon, with another strategy, which is the physical sale. Information from the CEO of Multilaser, Alexandre Ostrowiecki. The company will be responsible for the assembly, distribution and after-sales in Brazil.

The first model should arrive for us now in early May, initially we will put it online and then we will be able to take out two more models, already closed, that will be used for physical sale.
