“It is an honor to have lived your magic in my field. It is an honor to know that you are part of my history. You are great, Diego,” says the message in the official Azteca account.

Two Argentine matches at the Estadio Azteca were immortalized in the 86th world title campaign and, in particular, in Maradona’s career. In the quarter-finals, the midfielder scored two iconic goals in a 2-1 win over England.

The first became known as “The Hand of God”, when Maradona beat goalkeeper Peter Shilton over the top with his left hand to touch the ball into goal. The other is called “The goal of the century” for the beauty of the play: Maradona carried the ball from the center of the field to the small area, dribbling to half the English team before scoring.
