The attack on the São Paulo bus last Saturday, in the western part of the capital, had an unusual change of course, a discussion between players and soccer coach José Carlos dos Santos and bombs disarmed by GATE (Group of Special Tactical Actions ).
The first tense moment occurred even before the attack. Generally, when São Paulo leaves the CT and goes to the Morumbi stadium, the most used route is through Marginal Tietê or through the Lapa neighborhood. On Saturday, however, the chosen route was different. The delegation had to cross the Eusébio Matoso bridge, near Faria Lima, where the attacks took place.
According to the Military Police, who were escorting the bus, the route was previously discussed between the corporation and the club. Due to the pressure São Paulo experienced during the season, the club members chose to take a different path to avoid a possible ambush by the fans. The ge had access to a video of the bus that goes against the street in CT, the Marquês de São Vicente (look down).

However, even with the change came the ambush. And the fact left some of the players unhappy. Before the match against Coritiba, some athletes argued more harshly with soccer coach José Carlos dos Santos.
Reports from those who witnessed the discussion are that goalkeeper Tiago Volpi was one of the most exalted. At the end of the match, he also argued with Reinaldo about the way the team behaved in the 1-1 draw.
According to coach Fernando Diniz, the incident did not influence the team on the field. Gabriel Sara, however, had an indisposition when arriving at the stadium. São Paulo denies that there was any connection to the attacks.
– The players were very professional, they worked hard and tried to win the match, we made mistakes in the conclusions, but they worked hard and started well. Despite what happened they were professionals and were very united in today’s game – said the coach after the tie with Coritiba.
Tense moments on the bus and on the street
The attack with stones and bombs affected the players. By the time the artifacts were launched, the athletes and coaching staff were focused and the noise caused a great shock to everyone.

Brenner, for example, was almost hit by one of the rocks and tensed with what happened. There are even reports that some athletes ducked inside the vehicle for fear of being hit.
The bus continued its journey towards Morumbi and the police chased the vandals who carried out the act. The PM managed to arrest 14 people on Rua Bento Frías, with the rockets, stones, sticks and iron bars.
However, one fact caught the prime minister’s attention: bombs with the potential to explode were found in the area close to the attack. GATE (Special Tactical Action Group) was called to deactivate the artifacts.
No one was injured during the attacks, and São Paulo president Julio Casares said in an official statement that Luís Lanfredi, from the club’s Security Sector Chamber, will monitor developments and support investigations into the case.
