With an outstanding performance by forward Eduardo Vargas, Atlético-MG beat Atlético 1-0 today (12), at Arena da Baixada, for the 25th round of the Brazilian Championship, and again played the leader São Paulo. Galo now has 46 points, while Tricolor Paulista, who faces Corinthians (13) tomorrow, leads the championship with 50 points.
Vargas scored the goal of Atlético-MG’s victory over Huracán and could even have increased the score, had it not been for a few centimeters that put him offside in plays that ended the ball in the net, but were invalidated by the video referee.
In three games with the white jersey the Chilean scored a goal and gave an assist.
The next appointment of the Rooster in the competition will be a decision, against São Paulo, in Morumbi, on Wednesday (16), at 9:30 p.m. El Huracán, for its part, visits Red Bull Bragantino on Sunday (20), at 4pm.
The game:
Atlético-MG did not mind playing away from home and in a stadium with synthetic grass. Galo was better in both stages and involved Atlético, who showed no indication that he could win the match.
Atlético-MG scored three goals, but only one was worth it, since in two of these plays the referee rightly accused the offensive position of forward Vargas. The Chilean was the big name of the game not only because of the winning goal, but because of the movement in the attack and for bringing a lot of danger to Santos’ goal.
Keno, despite missing a penalty in the first half, showed good offensive movement and put a lot of work into the right side of Hurricane’s defense.
While the Gaul dominated the actions, the rival presented little on the field. Without the strength to overcome the white mark, Atlético accumulated the third consecutive defeat in the championship.
Who did it well: Eduardo Vargas
The Chilean forward has great numbers in his career start at Atlético-MG. The number 10 made his third game with the white jersey, with which he already has a goal and an assist. Despite missing the penalty in the first half, Keno also deserves a mention for being actively involved in creating the Roos’ offensive plays. Vargas’ goal pass was his.
Who went wrong: Richard
The Huracán midfielder was unable to stand out on the scoreboard or help the team with passes for the offensive transition. He was involved in strong pressure from the rival, who cornered Atlético in the defensive field.
Game timeline:
At 16 minutes into the first half, Atlético-MG even crashed into the net, with Eduardo Vargas taking advantage of a Keno center. However, the video referee (VAR) accused the offside and annulled the play.
In the 31st minute, Keno missed a penalty. Galo’s striker chose Santos’ left corner, but the goalkeeper jumped “like a cat” and made a beautiful defense.
At 43 minutes, finally, the mining team opened the scoring. Eduardo Vargas received a Keno pass from the right and shot on goal. Atlético-MG: 1 to 0.
Four minutes into the second half, another goal by Vargas was canceled by the referees. Again the attacker was in an irregular position.
