With more ball possession and offensive football, Atlético-MG had a good first half and beat Coritiba 1-0, tonight (6), in Couto Pereira. Eduardo Sasha was the author of the only goal of the match, valid for the eighth day of the 2020 Brazilian Championship. Jorge Sampaoli’s team declined in performance in the second stage, but managed to hold the result.
Galo occupies the third position of the tournament, with 15 points, two behind Internacional, first place. The miners have one game less than the Rio Grande do Sul team. Coxa is ranked 17th, with seven points. The team is in the relegation zone.
Atlético-MG returns to the field next Wednesday to face Santos in Vila Belmiro. Coritiba will face Goiás that same day, at the Hailé Pinheiro stadium, in Goiânia.
Who did it well: Eduardo Sasha
Once again named head of Jorge Sampaoli’s team, Eduardo Sasha was the main name of the party. The forward was used as a benchmark in the offensive sector and took advantage of the only opportunity he had in the duel. He had a rebound on Igor Rabello’s submission to fill in Wilson’s net. It was the first goal of the 18 shirt in the Brasileirão. He had already scored in the Mineiro Championship.
Who was wrong: Giovanni Augusto
Jorginho opted for Giovanni Augusto as Coritiba’s central midfielder. The player, however, did not yield during the match. He struggled to create dangerous moves in favor of the visitor and added little in the counter moves. The midfielder failed to frame the game for the home team. Not surprisingly, he left the field 10 minutes into the second half for Hugo Moura to enter.
Coritiba fights to arm counterattacks
Closed in the field of defense, Coritiba had difficulties mounting counterattacks. Stuck in their sector, Jorginho’s team tried to speed off with Robson and Sassá. The pair, however, barely caught the ball and was very well marked by Igor Rabello, Junior Alonso and Jair. In the first half, for example, the director only finished one shot. Robson sent a long shot from Rafael’s goal on the center kick.
With the entries of Igor Jesús and Hugo Moura, Coritiba began to control the game and created the best chances, but failed in the submissions. Sassá, Robson and Igor Jesus himself had chances to even the score.
Sampaoli improvises and Galo dominates, but takes caution
With Allan improvised on the left side and acting as a midfielder on the ball, Atlético-MG controlled the game in Couto Pereira. Jorge Sampaoli’s team spent more time in possession of the ball and had the peace of mind of creating the plays in attack, avoiding crosses, as in previous games.
Keno and Savarino were used frequently on the sides of the field and had Hyoran and Alan Franco in their positions. The pair created the team’s best chances on the flanks. Galo defended himself with a 4-3-3 and attacked with a different formation: 2-3-5.
In the second half, the miners became defensive and had a difficult time dating the men of creation. The team held on to the defense and kept the result positive.
Coritiba and Atlético-MG are obliged to change their uniforms
Referee Diego Pombo López (BA) asked Coritiba to change his uniform before the game. However, the club’s board refused to change the uniform, claiming to be the team in charge of the confrontation. The request for arbitration came about because the two shirts could be confused. Galo played with a striped pattern, while Coxa’s was white.
Interestingly, at halftime, the two teams changed their uniforms. Atlético-MG returned from the dressing room with a white shirt, while Coritiba adopted the green uniform. The measure was at the request of Diego Pombo López (BA).
