In a very bad match, Atlético-GO drew 1-1 with Corinthians tonight (7) and interrupted a streak of two consecutive victories for Alvinegro as a visitor in Brasileirão 2020. Dragão, in turn, still do not win, maintaining a fast of four parties in the national competition.
Lucas Oliveira was the one who opened the scoring for the locals, but Fábio Santos, from a penalty, equalized the score of the match valid for the 20th match, at the Goiânia Olympic Games.
With the result, Corinthians temporarily rises to ninth place, with 25 points. Atlético-GO, however, remains in 13th position, 23.
Alvinegro’s next appointment will be against Atlético-MG, next Saturday (14), at 7:00 p.m. (Brasilia time), in Neo Química Arena. Dragão is on the field against Flamengo, on the same day, at 9:30 p.m. (Brasilia time), in Maracana.
Who did it well: Fábio Santos
Finding an outstanding performance in this match is a difficult task, but given the context, it is a compliment to the match made by left-back Fábio Santos. His performance, as usual, was safe. In addition, shirt 26 called for the responsibility to hit, and convert, the penalty that tied Corinthians on the scoreboard. His presence in the defensive sector transmits confidence to the rest of his teammates, contrary to what had been happening to Sidcley and Piton in their role.
Who was wrong: Marllon
Hastily called back on loan after Danilo Avelar’s injury, Marllon had been competently meeting Corinthians’ needs at work. Today, however, he made mistakes that could have prevented Alvinegro from drawing on the road.
Otero’s “teeth” steal the show
What attracted the most attention in the first stage was when, in a ball dispute with Ferrareis, Corinthians Otero apparently seemed to have lost a series of teeth. After being rescued by left back Fábio Santos, it was revealed during the match broadcast that the teeth were actually dental contact lenses, used for cosmetic purposes and that they cost approximately R $ 2,000 each.
Corinthians performance
Since the arrival of Vagner Mancini, Corinthians had managed to be competitive at Brasileirão, especially on the road. However, this did not happen in the first stage in Goiânia. Despite not suffering major threats until the 41st minute, the Parque São Jorge club could not control the game at any time. His best move was just before the rival goal, when Davo dribbled past goalkeeper Jean, but was very indecisive when shooting and ended up unarmed. After 1-0, in a Marllon failure, Atlético narrowly increased the score, when Chico finished finishing off Cassio’s left.
In the second half, however, Fagner suffered a penalty and Fábio Santos leveled the score. The goal, however, had little to no effect on the posture of Vagner Mancini’s men, who remained uninspired and without momentum until the final whistle.
Atlético-GO performance
Dragão was superior to Corinthians in the first half, but that does not mean that the performance of the local team was good. In addition to Lucas Oliveira’s header, Atlético only threatened Cássio’s goal once. The same position was maintained in the second stage, when Corinthians tied the game in ten minutes. A few isolated chances were still created, with an emphasis on a shot outside the area by Willian Maranhão, which passed very close to Cássio’s goal, but nothing to justify a different score.
