At 100 years old, the grandmother of former defender Roberto Carlos beats Covid-19 and returns home to Cordeirópolis | Piracicaba and Region

Oscar Pereira da Silva, 70, father of Roberto Carlos and son of Doña Gismalia, says that the last month was one of apprehension. Despite his advanced age, he says that the centennial mother was independent before the disease and that the appearance of the first symptoms due to a worsening of the condition was very rapid.

“It is a strange matter. It was from Friday to Saturday that it got worse. He started complaining, but he was fine, without difficulty breathing. In the morning, my niece called and attacked me immediately,” he recalls.

With difficulty breathing, doña Gismalia was transferred to a hospital in Limeira (SP), where she remained in the infirmary for exactly 30 days, always with oxygen. The son points out that, “fortunately”, the mother did not need intubation or care in the ICU.

“Look, she’s very strong, thank God. Despite her age, she never needed anyone. She walked, ate, drank, everything was normal. That strength helped. There are people who don’t even think she’s that old,” he says .

To get Gismalia out of the hospital, the family had to install an oxygen cylinder for the elderly woman. On Saturday (12), Oscar went to look for her in Limeira and the party for the recovery, which became common to those who overcome the Covid-19 when leaving the hospital, happened at his home.

“There in the hospital it was fast, we left and came to Cordeirópolis. Here it was a joy. Relatives, friends and even the mayor came, ”says the son.

Mother of five children, two of them already dead, Mrs. Gismalia, Oscar remembers, is already a great-grandmother, the ex-lateral Roberto Carlos, now 47, is already a grandfather, for example. “Roberto is full of children,” jokes Oscar.
