BRASÍLIA – The Ministry of Health reported this Thursday that the 2 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine produced in India and imported by Brazil will arrive in the country late on Friday afternoon.
In a note, the ministry reported that the cargo will be transported on a commercial flight by Emirates to São Paulo and from there to Rio de Janeiro. Immunizers must be analyzed and labeled at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) before being distributed to state governments.
As Reuters showed, the Indian government announced on Thursday the export of lots of vaccines to Brazil and Morocco, in the first commercial sale authorized by the country. Earlier in the week, India had authorized humanitarian exports to neighboring countries.
The Brazilian government announced last week that it would send a plane to India to search for the batch of 2 million doses, but the operation was aborted after the Indian government said it would not authorize the export before starting its own vaccination program.
