Despite the 1-0 loss to Boca on Wednesday night, in the first match of the Libertadores round of 16, assistant coach Leomir de Souza saw Inter make the best match since he returned with Abel Braga to Beira-Rio.
However, at a post-match press conference, Leomir admitted that submission errors and indecision on the defense cost the result that leaves the team behind for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Despite speaking protected by the mask, the voice made clear the assistant’s discomfort at the situation. Still, he tried to assess the team’s production.
– The results are not very good and we are aware of this. Today was a very difficult game against a highly qualified opponent. Since we arrived at Inter, I think it was the best match we presented. But we did not win. We had the opportunity – said Leomir.

The professional was asked about the reason for the most recent failure. Leomir admitted that, at the origin of Tevez’s goal, there was a doubt on the left side of the defense, composed of Zé Gabriel and Uendel. Salvio took advantage, kept the ball and played for his teammate to score.
– In an indecision behind the defense that the goal came. It happens in games. Every game is indecisive. And also the presentations that we couldn’t do. We managed to control some situations. We had difficulties in the first half, but we managed to neutralize them. After the goal, we even had a chance to draw, but we couldn’t – he added.
If Inter returns the result in the Bombonera next Wednesday, the decision will go to penalties. Victories by two goals difference classify the team. For the qualifying balance, Colorado can also win by one goal, as 2 to 1.
Before, the team returns to concentrate its forces in the Brasileirão. On Sunday, at 6.15pm, he faces Atlético-MG. The match, valid for round 24, will be played in Mineirão.
