Argentina began, on Tuesday (29), to vaccinate the population against Covid-19. The first immunized will be health professionals. The country will use Sputnik V, a vaccine developed by Russian scientists against the disease.
The first 300,000 doses of the vaccine were delivered last week. Of that total, 123,000 – the equivalent of 41% – went to the province of Buenos Aires, neighboring the capital, according to the Argentine newspaper “La Nación.”
The city of Buenos Aires received 23,100 doses. The rest were distributed among Santa Fe (24.1 thousand), Córdoba (21.9 thousand), Tucumán (11.5 thousand), Mendoza (11 thousand), Entre Ríos (10.1 thousand) and Salta (8.3 thousand thousand).

As reported by “La Nación”, during January and February another 20 million doses will arrive in the country to complete the vaccination of health teams and security forces.
The Argentine agreement with Russia provides for the delivery of 25 million doses of Sputnik V, to be applied in two doses.
On Saturday (26), when announcing the launch of the campaign, President Alberto Fernández said that the intention was to have “most of the population at risk vaccinated” by the fall.
Meanwhile, we will take care of ourselves and that everyone understands that the risk exists and that it is necessary to avoid crowds ”, added Fernández.
The Argentine president also said that, to increase the confidence of the population in the Russian vaccine, he would be the first to be vaccinated (see video below).

By April, the country still awaits the arrival of 22.4 million doses of the vaccine developed by the University of Oxford in partnership with AstraZeneca.
Mexico, Chile and Costa Rica are the other countries in Latin America that have already begun to vaccinate the population.
In addition to Argentina, Belarus also began, on Tuesday (29), to apply Sputnik V to the population. The countries are among the first, outside of Russia itself, to use the vaccine for mass campaigns.
With the start of vaccination in Argentina and Belarus, at least 44 countries around the world have already started vaccinating the population against Covid.
Sputnik V was the first to register in the world against Covid-19 in August. About two weeks ago, Russia released data with the final result of the effectiveness of the vaccine, which was around 91%.
In practice, if a vaccine is 91% effective, it means that 91% of vaccinated people are protected from the disease.
