Fluminense reached the first goal at the start of the classic, with a shot from Dodi, which won a thousand reais at the wheel of a bet with coach Odair Hellmann and also crowned his good moment. But, even with the lead on the scoreboard, Tricolor did not back down. He was safe on the mark and arrived in danger a couple of times, coming closer to expanding than suffering the draw.

In the second stage, the scene changed a bit: Vasco began to grow and increased possession of the ball, but without threatening the goal of Marcos Felipe, Muriel’s starting point, who was left out due to muscle discomfort. For Odair, the drop in production was due to physical wear and tear amid the tight schedule:

– We had an excellent first half, Vasco tried to balance from 25, 30 minutes, maybe. We score goals and create two or three more situations. In the second half, the team fell a little, because they did not hold the ball so much, but because of the sequence situation – said the coach at a post-match press conference.

Fluminense expanded in a more discreet moment of the game: Goose gave a good pass to Fred, who scored a beautiful goal, the first when he returned to the club. The team also saw Talles Magno decrease, after the nonsense of Egídio and Marcos Felipe, who spread it on the attacker’s foot. The team, however, managed to hold on to the result and left the Maracana with good reason to celebrate, and of course, the victory.

But what are the main points of this evolution of the Fluminense in the field?

  • Dodi: It is no longer news that the midfielder became the “owner” of the tricolor midfield. Consistent in scoring, he is also the protagonist in offensive transitions, being the “little engine” of the team. Odair nailed him as a starter in the Rio Cup semifinal against Botafogo;
  • Michel Araújo is another noteworthy player. The coach also saw a good role for the Uruguayan, who helps to give rhythm to the team. The vacancy, before, was Iago, who made the team less creative and slower;
  • Nenê’s positioning: before being “boxed in” by the right, the veteran returned to play with more freedom, floating by the tricolor attack. Not in vain did he stand out again.
  • Yuri was a good fit too. The midfielder had a chance with Hudson’s injury and linked up with Dodi. Makes the function more marked and secure;
  • Marcos Paulo grew up against Vasco. The forward seemed disconnected in the last games, but he did well in this Saturday’s classic, returning to play what is expected of him. His positioning, like Nenê’s, attracted attention. He acted more freely in front of and closer to the goal, facing the scorer, as he usually does better;
  • Often questioned, Ganso also deserves to be remembered. A starter against Atlético-PR, the midfielder had a regular performance and returned to enter well against Figueirense and Vasco: the play began last Tuesday that ended in penalty in Yago and, this Saturday, he assisted Fred.

The team, of course, can still improve, but it certainly already has another football in relation to the visa against Grêmio and Palmeiras, for example, in the first two rounds of Brasileirão. With no time to train, but based on conversation and a good relationship with the group, Papito has managed to get the best out of his individual pieces and give the group more consistency.

With 10 points, Fluminense will return to the field on Wednesday, at 7.15pm (from Brasilia), to face Atlético-GO, in Maracanã. The match will be valid for the seventh round of the Brazilian Championship.
