A storm broke over Beira-Rio an hour before the duel of the Bury with Boca Juniors for the last 16 of the Libertadores, this Wednesday. For superstitious people, torrential rain and wind could be signs of a positive turn in the direction of Colorado as well as the opposite.
But the reality of soccer, time and time again, goes beyond mysticism to be pragmatic. The reality of 90 minutes of football was once again cruel to Inter in the 1-0 defeat that made life difficult for the second leg.
Rain or shine, Abel Braga’s team fails and then fails again in its attempts to react to save a season that seems increasingly lost. Everything can change with the next 90 minutes of the duel at La Bombonera. But that’s not what the field indicates.
Internacional’s goal 0 x 1 Boca Juniors, for the Libertadores round of 16
Assistant Leomir de Souza was once again the coach’s representative on the edge of the field and assured after the defeat that Inter had their best game since Abel’s return. It is true.
But it all comes down to flashes of good football, almost as brief as the lightning bolts that cut across the sky Wednesday night. The team was always exposed when trying to attack and succumbed again, unable to react after conceding a goal.
20 minutes of encouragement. It’s just
Abel repeated the 4-4-2 with a diamond in midfield. Rodrigo Dourado was the most defensive midfielder, with Lindoso on the right, Patrick on the left and D’Alessandro in the center. Yuri Alberto and Thiago Galhardo formed the attacking duo.
The scheme is an adaptation of Eduardo Coudet’s 4-1-3-2, with the two socks on the edges in the most rearward position. Another change is also abrupt. The team even pushes and scores high, but not with such intensity and numerical presence.
Inter lived the best 20 minutes of football under Abel Braga. He prevailed and took advantage of the mobility of the offensive system to reach the attack.
In offensive phase, Lindoso retired to Dourado’s side and released Patrick and D’Ale to join the attackers, almost 4-2-4. The wingers also participated in the offensive plays.
The attacks ranged between two strategies: D’Ale’s attempts at “pifadas” to explore in depth the speed of the attackers or exchanges of passes and approaches until he found spaces on the side of the field, with the wings.

There were two dangerous moves. One with Patrick, kicking from the entrance to the area, and the other with Galhardo, head-on. But Inter did not make Andrada work on a single move in the match.
After the flash of chromatic superiority, the first half was Boca. Inter attacked and left gaps. He scored rivals from afar. And the Argentines knew how to explore spaces with the speed of Salvio and Villa from the sides.
Villa, in particular, had personal victories in almost all of Hector’s movements. It was difficult for the side to find him. On the other hand, Zé Gabriel suffered from Cardona and Salvio. Rodrigo Moledo had to multiply to protect the area by firing precise boats from all sides.

Even so, Boca repeatedly entered the Inter area and took danger in the aerial ball. In total, there were seven presentations by the Argentines against three by Inter in the initial stage.
Communication failure target
Leomir moved the team into the second half. Mauricio took the place of D’Alessandro, and Inter began to play at 4-2-3-1, with Yuri Alberto backing down the left and Patrick centered.
Boca took danger in the first play, but Inter won again. He had a clear opportunity wasted by Rodrigo Lindoso inside the area. But those who scored, in fact, were the Argentines.
In a communication failure, Uendel and Zé Gabriel hit the head on the left. Salvio took advantage, invaded the area and defeated the defender before serving Tevez to score the goal that paid tribute to Diego Maradona.
The conceded goal again became a blow from which Inter could not recover. A hard knock. Not to the point of being a knockout, but enough to leave the team disoriented until the inevitable end.
Leandro Fernández crashes his free kick off the crossbar. Then, Patrick missed an opportunity inside the area, in a play that generated a penalty claim.
But the only goalkeeper who worked was Marcelo Lomba, with a stop in extra time, after another counterattack from Boca. To rid the team of the worst.
With the defeat, Inter need to win the second leg at La Bombonera by two goals difference, or by one goal, as long as they score two or more times (2 to 1, 3 to 2 and so on). A 1-0 victory in color leads the decision to penalties.
Inter and Boca decide the venue next Wednesday, at 9:30 p.m. Before that, Colorado will face Atlético-MG on Sunday, at 6.15pm, in Mineirão, for matchday 24 of the Brasileirão.
