A disallowed goal, whether due to a correct or incorrect decision by the referee, can destabilize a team. But it cannot have the effect it had in São Paulo last Thursday, in the 3-0 loss to Atlético-MG, in Mineirão.
Until minute 29 of the first half, what we saw was an overwhelming São Paulo: two balls in the post, submissions that forced Rafael to make difficult stops and a compaction with two lines of four interesting in defense. The mining team did not threaten much.

And what we saw, then, was a much worse São Paulo. It didn’t take five minutes for the team to make their first mistake by coming out with Tchê Tchê and conceding the goal after Galo found a pass between the defenders, something feared by Fernando Diniz.
Having the goal canceled and shortly after suffering a rival completely dismantled the team. The tricolor of São Paulo did not meet after that and saw the sequence of three consecutive victories collapse and the possibility of deceiving the leadership of Brasileirão.
Hernanes would still give some hope by launching a dangerous free kick in the 38th minute of the first half, but he left five minutes later when Alan Franco expanded to Atlético-MG. The 0-2 scoreline summed up São Paulo’s total loss of concentration in the match.
When he came up from the locker room, Fernando Diniz tried to make the team a little more offensive by taking Gabriel Sara to put Vitor Bueno. Last Sunday, Fernando Diniz said that São Paulo would fight to the end for the Brazilian Championship title after the victory over Corinthians. On Thursday it became clear that this fight will only be possible if the team knows how to handle emotions.
Even with the defeat, São Paulo remains in second place in the Brazilian Championship, with 13 points won. However, the oscillations, such as those shown against Atlético-MG, put in doubt whether the Tricolor will really be the protagonist of the tournament.
