Cruzeiro returned to leave the field without winning in this Serie B. This was the case in 14 of the 22 games he played in the competition. The errors presented in the 1-1 draw with Figueirense, in the middle of Mineirão, were very reminiscent of those who tormented the team led by Enderson Moreira and Ney Franco. Bad football justifies that Serie B G-4 (12 points) is never closer than the Z-4 (five points) of Cruzeiro.
The two predecessors of Felipão arrived with a high-scoring speech and a game proposal. They failed. And the Friday night cruise too. The team was predictable to attack and, when attacked, showed weaknesses that did not appear before the game against Guaraní, in the last round.
Scolari surprised by using Régis wide open, placing Sobis as second forward. A company for Marcelo Moreno who, despite being far from living his golden times, suffers from a lack of team production. The ball is not enough. There were only nine presentations. Besides the goal, the only other balls that caught Sidão’s attention were the outside shots, with Régis and Jadsom Silva, in the second half.

And this difficulty of creating begins back there, when the ball is with Fábio and the defenders. The difficulty in transitioning from defensive line to attack is clear. In fact, the coach asked a man who did this job. But it was not answered. Defenders and full-backs exchange passes without options and, in the absence of movement of the midfielders and forwards, the opponent’s high score becomes easy to fit.
Pressure marking, this one, which did not work for Cruzeiro. Moreno, Sobis, Airton and Régis tried to avoid the exchange of passes between defenders and defenders, but defensive midfielders Matheus Neris and Patrick were almost always free to start the creation and still appear as offensive options. Cruzeiro, there, lost three, or even four, players to help score, due to a poor defensive front line (look down).
And it is precisely this mistake up front that overloads Cruzeiro’s steering wheels, wings and defenders. The space between the lines, caused by the lack of compression, blocking marking, generated comfort for the Figueirense players who, had they had a more inspired night, would have resolved the game, especially in the first half. This same problem was presented to Figueira himself, on the turn (with Enderson Moreira), in a duel won by Raposa due to Mauricio’s individual talent.
Not in vain, Léo Arthur and Patrick, from Figueirense, and Bruno Silva, Lucas Crispim and Murilo Rangel, from Guaraní, stood out against Cruzeiro. Since the beginning of the year, the team has struggled to win the midfield. He was improving with Felipão, but he fell in those last two games and, for that, he should be grateful for the two added points and appreciate the power of the reaction. From what he showed in both games as main, he came out in profit.
Scolari acknowledged this both times. It should also be noted that with him there is, in all aspects, a much more realistic view of the events. And a reality to face until Tuesday is that this creative sector, due to the way it has been playing, seems incapable of breaking the defense of Chapecoense, which leaked only six times in 22 games.
