Little by little, concept by concept, Domènec Torrent manages to make his way to Flamengo. The victory over Fluminense by 2 to 1 confirmed the sequence of evolution of the team – there are seven invincibility matches and four consecutive wins -, in each match a new brick is placed in the new red and black building.
Contrary to what is usually proclaimed in soccer, Dome began to build his bases by attack, not defense. Since he opted for 4-2-3-1, the coach has clarified the offensive part of Flamengo, which has been giving good answers since the victory over Santos.
+ After Flamengo’s victory over Fluminense, Dome praises the tactical evolution: “Much better”

Against Fluminense, it was time to detect an evolution in defense. If in the previous games the team still seemed insecure, especially in the transition, still without many references to the high score, the Maracana classic showed improvements.
Especially in the first half, the defensive line came to play all in the attack field, even when the ball was owned by the rival. Flamengo scored 4-4-2, leaving Diego ahead with Gabigol.

More than the high positioning itself, a greater compactness between the lines and a better adjusted coordination stood out – Thiago Maia stands out, impeccable covering the climbs of Isla, for example.
The pressure marking was one of the most striking features of the 2019 Flamengo and is also part of the Dome concepts. But it is something much more complex to adjust, especially in a scenario with little time to train.
Little by little, the technician has managed to prepare it in his own way. When the strategy works, the team completely dominates the game, just like the first half.
– Tactically I think that every day we play a little better and we understand what we want to do against each opponent. I think we are all better. Me too, ”Dome said after the win.
Offensively, players are becoming more and more used to Dome’s ideas. Criticisms of positional play, which suggested a static team, lost ground. Against Fluminense you could see Gabigol from all sides of the field, with Arrascaeta, Diego and Everton Ribeiro together in the middle, and Isla always giving the option on the right.
It is the basic premise of the coach’s philosophy: positions must be filled, by anyone. Gabigol can be the man with the breadth on the left, as long as Diego centralizes the attack. Or Filipe Luís can open on that side, with Gabigol in the reference and Arrascaeta further inside.
As the work progresses, these movements become more natural and Flamengo gains more options.

However, it is important that these moments of good football are more and more constant. The second part of Flamengo was very different. The team seemed to lose focus on the advantage, took a step back and even showed some ease in the attacks, such was the space that Fluminense offered.
Maintaining the level of performance for a longer period of the game is one of the next challenges in this red-black puzzle that Dome is gradually assembling.
