The exchanges, until then, had not been a problem. The names changed, the scheme and consistency remained. Thus the Basque was doing well in the Brazilian, even without Ramón Menezes having managed, in eight games, to repeat the line-up. The 2-1 loss to Atlético-GO, however, this Thursday, in São Januário, showed that there are irreplaceable pieces. At least in the cast of Vasco.
Martín Benítez is undoubtedly one of them. Saved by the marathon of matches, the 10 shirt came out for the first time, and Vasco had his worst performance under Ramón. Would it be different with the Argentine in the field? Impossible to say. But his absence resulted in elections that didn’t work out and changed the way the team played.

Bruno César failed as a replacement for Benítez. Another chosen to start, Carlinhos was lost on the right side. It is difficult to even pinpoint what role it was assigned to.
Hole on the left and little inspiration
Ramón’s choices in initial training did not work. It was a poor first time in creation and also scary. Without firepower at the front, Vasco gave gaps in defense. Especially on the left, where Janderson did the cat and shoe for Marcelo Alves in two plays. There, Atlético-GO arrived easily and narrowly missed.
With Henrique and Andrey reinforcing the brand on the left, Vasco managed to correct the gap in the sector. However, Atlético-GO was always more dangerous. Fernando Miguel was the best Basque player on the pitch.
With the midfield slow, heavy and uninspired, the creation was practically nil. Carlinhos, on the right, seemed lost, very close to Pikachu. Benítez’s replacement, Bruno César, was wrong. Still, the best opportunity in the first stage came from his pass to Henrique, who kicked in defense of Jean.
Cano’s goal does not save Vasco

Ramón returned with Bruno Gomes and Vinicius in the places of Carlinhos and Fellipe Bastos. With pain, Andrey gave way to Marcos Junior at 5 minutes. The names might suggest more speed and aggressiveness, but in practice what we saw was an even greater dominance of Atlético-GO. Vasco’s difficulty in getting through midfield was impressive. With overshooting errors and strong marking by the Goiás team, the team was harmless and looked at Atlético-GO.
But who has Cano (another irreplaceable part of the cast) has a lot. In the first good attack of Vasco in the second half, the ball fell to the Argentine and … 1 to 0 Vasco.
The scoring was unfair, but you could imagine it would be the measure. As in the previous game, against Athletico-PR, Ramón would close the table and bet on counterattacks. However, there was not even time to rehearse the boom, as the Goiás team drew the next minute with Renato Kayzer.

The center forward’s goal revealed in São Januário exposed new errors in Vasco’s defense. Marcelo Alves, on a terrible night, did not accompany Kayzer, who led it alone.
The rain of cold water cooled any attempt by Vasco to react, and Atlético-GO, who was already in command of the game, came to the corner naturally, again with Kayzer, heading free between the Basque defenders. It was the final blow on a night when nothing went right.
