The five suspects of having committed a collective rape at the top of the Morro do Cantagalo, in Copacabana, in the South Zone of Rio, surrendered to the police on the afternoon of this Friday 9. At dawn, according to the mother of a witness, the boys took the young woman to a house at the top of the community and committed the abuse. Rio’s interim governor, Cláudio Castro, said he would indict the police for a “rigorous investigation.”
– Everyone here knows each other (victims and aggressors). My family and the girl’s are evangelicals. We are from the Assembly of God. The bullies live nearby. We don’t understand why. From time to time we saw each other in church (victim and aggressors) – recalls the 42-year-old manicurist who lives in a house next to the family of the girl who was raped.

This Friday, in an interview with EXTRA, the mother of the witness who helped the victim says she does not understand the motive for the crime. And she recalled that the two girls, who are friends, left the house the day before without telling their parents to drink with friends on the main street of the community. The woman says that on the day of the crime, a Saturday, there was no funk dance in Cantagalo, which goes against the previous information:
– It wasn’t a funk dance or a party. They were on the street where we live drinking. There was no party. They drank and listened to music on the street, my daughter said.

The manicurist did not know how many people were drinking with her daughter and the abused 14-year-old student. However, he ensures that everyone has known each other since childhood.
– I can’t say how many people attended that event (the rape). Both my daughter and the girl who was the victim ran away from home and we (the parents) are always the last to know. But it was common for everyone (victim and attackers) to go out and meet to talk because they were known – says the witness’s mother.

According to the testimony, they took her to a house at the top of the favela and raped her there. The girl says she may have been drugged while drinking alcohol with her colleagues.
– The one who helped (the victim) was my daughter. She was showing signs of heavy drinking and was disoriented. When my daughter found the girl, she was already halfway there. Then my daughter took her and the two of them went to the girl’s house – says the witness’s mother, who only found out about the fact at 8 am when her daughter got home.

According to the manicurist, the daughter did not want to talk about the day of the crime.
– I don’t know much, because my daughter doesn’t count for much. My daughter will be heard on Tuesday. He didn’t say where the house is and I don’t even know if he knows the place. My daughter picked up the girl in the middle (in a place known as Pistão). You did not receive it at the house. So, I’m not sure where this house is.
Due to the complexity of the case, the minor witnesses who will be heard in the next few days will be accompanied by psychologists and specialized professionals from the Police Station for Victims of Children and Adolescents (DCAV) during depositions. The crime was denounced in the 13th PD (Ipanema) and is accompanied by the head, the police officer Felipe Santoro da Silva.

Acting governor calls for rigorous investigation
During a press conference this Friday about the return to school in the state network, the acting governor Cláudio Castro spoke about the crime against the 14-year-old student in Morro do Cantagalo. In addition to claiming to have accused the police for a rigorous investigation, Castro stressed that it will be a priority agenda to tackle violence against women in the state of Rio.

Yesterday, in the meeting with the police, an alarming fact reappeared: the majority of those summoned in 190 are violence against women. This will be a priority agenda for the state. I had already made this position yesterday and today I will repeat a very tough and careful investigation – said the acting governor.

Identified aggressors
The five suspects – three adults and two minors – accused of having committed the crime have already been identified and the Civil Police. The adults were detained and the two adolescents detained. The rape would have occurred after a funk dance in late September. However, it was only registered on the last day 5. The young woman’s testimony was taken at the Police Station for Victims of Childhood and Adolescence (DCAV), following the protocol for care for victims of sexual violence.
For investigators, the girl said she believed the abusers had drugged her before the crime. In testimony, he said that during the dance they put some kind of substance in his alcoholic drink.
The girl also said that she suddenly lost consciousness during the event. And from there he was taken to a slab in another part of Cantagalo, he says.
