All about Xiaomi’s new cell phone in Brazil

Xiaomi’s new bet in Brazil is a cell phone that will start at R $ 3,000. Announced this Thursday (8) by the company, the Poco X3 NFC is an intermediate device that has a screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, technology seen in top-of-the-line cell phones from other manufacturers, such as Samsung.

The new smartphone in the country will be imported again from China and has resources for gamers. The processor itself is intended for this. There will be two different models released here:

  • 64 GB: R $ 2,999
  • 128GB: 3,299 real

The company says the Poco X3 NFC has “everything you need and it doesn’t have what you don’t need.” In practice, this means that the phone has features such as the aforementioned 120 Hz screen, but loses others (which are not as unnecessary as the brand points out) such as greater resistance to dust and contact with water.

Xiaomi’s idea is to create a separate line for Pocophones in Brazil. That is why the marketing of the line has already been separated from that of the other lines of the company. Mobile phones are successful abroad and the company hopes that acceptance will be repeated here.

“It had a very wide acceptance around the world,” he tells Inclination Luciano Barbosa, director of the Xiaomi project in Brazil, without citing numbers. “Here we were still structuring communication from other lines, but now with this worldwide success, we decided to repeat this communication separately, with an exclusive social network.”

Currently, Xiaomi smartphones are imported to Brazil by DL Eletrônicos, which had already brought the Pocophone F1 to the country last year. Recently, imports were impacted by the increase in the dollar, which raised the prices of brands in the country. The idea is to create a national production, but the plan remains on paper only for now.

“The rise in the dollar affected it directly. The big problem is when it is very unstable, as it happened in April. We did not know if it was going to reach R $ 6.50 or if it fell to R $ 5. Now that we consider it semi-stabilized it’s better, we saw the brands replace the prices after that, ”says Barbosa.

State of the art display

The highlight of the cell phone is the 120 Hz refresh rate display that appears on a mid-range smartphone. This display technology, which is speculated on at least one of the upcoming iPhones, has already appeared in recent high-end launches from Samsung, such as the Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20 and the foldable Galaxy Z Fold 2.

The 120 Hz frequency improves the visual latency of mobile phones, making transitions faster and smoother on the screen. In tests of Inclination With recent cell phones already having this, there has been a real improvement in content, but it doesn’t seem like something that would incentivize the purchase of the device just for that. It also consumes a lot of battery.

The screen is still quite large – it measures 6.67 inches, with the hole-in-the-screen design centered. The resolution is Full HD +, other phones have higher resolutions, especially top-of-the-line ones, and Xiaomi promises “33% faster screen response than other smartphones on the market.”

At the rear, the design is different from that of most current mobile phones, which have adopted the camera lenses in a frame. In the case of the Poco X3 NFC, they are centralized and in a circle. The smartphone arrives in gray and blue.

Made for gamers

The brand also points out that the device is aimed at gamers, a market that is growing more and more in mobile phones. Starting with the processor, which is a Snapdragon 732G. The G accompanied by the number of the first line chip means that it is oriented to the game.

The Poco X3 NFC even has a technology called LiquidCool Plus, which reduces the temperature of the processor by up to six degrees, according to Xiaomi. Gaming-specific technologies, such as Game Turbo 3.0, would still optimize smartphone performance in games.

In addition, the device has a relevant 5,160 mAh battery that places it among the largest on the market today. Samsung’s Galaxy M31 has 6,000 mAh. The Poco X3 NFC still comes with a fast charge that goes from 0% to 100% in just over an hour, according to Xiaomi.

As its name suggests, it comes with NFC technology, which allows communication between other devices and proximity payment. But it is a relatively old technology and widely adopted by the market.

Unlike most current smartphones, the Poco X3 NFC has a headphone jack. The water and dust resistance is only IP53, which protects only against splashing on the cell phone. That is, more chances that you have problems with water in the device.

Multiple cameras

Following the current trend, the Poco X3 arrives with a great set of cameras on the rear. In total there are four different lenses:

  • One 64 MP main sensor
  • One 13 MP wide-angle sensor
  • A 2 MP macro sensor
  • A 2 MP depth sensor

In terms of variety, it is a set similar to other current phones such as Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 9, Samsung’s Galaxy A51 and A71, in addition to Motorola’s Moto G9 Plus.

At the front, the front camera is 20 MP. It is good to always remember that the megapixel is not everything in cell phones and that the quality of the lenses depends more on other factors.
