The candidacy of Baleia Rossi (MDB-SP) to the presidency of the Chamber was sanctioned after the “resignation” of deputy Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB), who disputed with the emedebista the support of the political group of Rodrigo Maia. “I gave up the pre-application of Brazil to take a step forward. I took a step back to consolidate the candidacy of Baleia Rossi,” said Ribeiro, who was present at the official announcement of the bloc’s candidacy this Wednesday (23).

Maia, who called Ribeiro “my great friend in the Chamber,” said his gesture “took the weight off me from deciding between two friends.” The PP deputy has always been Maia’s favorite to succeed him, and he also had the support of the PT bench, the largest in the Chamber with 54 deputies. In the end, the political rupture between 11 parties ended up excluding him – MDB deputies threatened to support Arthur Lira (PP-AL) if the party’s candidate was not chosen by the bloc.

“I thank the left and the support of the PT to build unity with a spirit of unity and strengthening. It is not a dispute between people, it is the search for the good for the country. I’m thankful [também] to the PSL leaders for hugging me, ”said Ribeiro, wishing him luck and confirming his support for Baleia’s candidacy.
