The Facebook page that questions the electoral process in the US had grown exponentially in the last 48 hours, bringing together more than 360 thousand people.
Facebook banned on Thursday afternoon (5/11) the group “Stop the Steal” (something like “stop the robbery”), created by supporters of Donald Trump who allege, without evidence, fraud in the process Electoral system of States United.
Described as a major repository of conspiracy theories, the page had grown exponentially in the past 48 hours, gathering more than 360,000 people.
The group echoes criticism from President Donald Trump, who appears behind opponent Joe Biden in the partial vote count in the country.
Trump and his team are trying to stop the count or call for a vote recount in at least four US states.
In the group, supporters were organizing at least 12 protests calling for a deadlock in the elections.
Some of the members defended the use of weapons in the demonstrations and spoke of a civil war in the event of the defeat of the Republican candidate.
In a press release, Facebook confirmed the removal.
“In line with the exceptional measures we are taking in this period of high tension, we have eliminated the ‘Stop the Steal’ Group, which was organizing real world events,” said a spokesperson.
“The group was organized around the delegitimization of the electoral process and we saw worrying mentions of violence by some members of the group.”
Since Wednesday, the US president has demanded that vote counting be stopped, saying the Democratic Party would try to defraud the vote that will determine who will lead the United States for the next four years.
Appeals for the Republican campaign were filed in Michigan and Georgia.
In Pennsylvania, the campaign won the right to have observers monitor the counting of votes sent by mail.
Trump is still trying to freeze the count in Georgia.
Until the publication of this report, Biden had an advantage in Nevada and Arizona. Trump is ahead in Georgia and Pennsylvania, where the gap between the two candidates has been narrowing.
