Twitter published a warning in a post by Bolsonarista federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PSL-SP) warning of “misleading and potentially harmful information related to Covid-19.”
He shared a video in which the journalist Alexandre García talks about a study that focused on the use of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, drugs that have not been shown to be effective against the coronavirus and that make up the so-called “early treatment.”
This approach, as understood and recommended by the Ministry of Health, is refuted by scientific studies from recognized institutions, which concluded that chloroquine and ivermectin have no effect against Covid-19.
Zambelli also wrote a text that says that “The American Journal of Medicine”, the journal that published the article mentioned by García in the video, “brings in its first edition of 2021 a study that tests the effectiveness of early treatment in the evolution of Covid- 19 “.
In recent days, Twitter noted the publication of the same content by President Jair Bolsonaro, which also contained the video with the participation of Alexandre García.
The UOL report showed that the journal in question has little prestige and is ranked 928 in the ranking of scientific journals prepared by Scimago. The “New England Journal of Medicine”, eighth place, was one of the first to publish studies on the ineffectiveness of hydroxychloroquine treatment for coronavirus.
Recognized institutions such as the World Health Organization also published studies that pointed out the ineffectiveness of chloroquine.
The same UOL report added that the study in question is not recent, but from August 2020. Zambelli says it is 2021, wrongly.
The Bolsonaro government and its supporters began a new offensive in defense of these drugs without proven effectiveness against Covid-19 at the time when Manaus is experiencing a collapse of its health system, with a lack of beds and oxygen.
The Panel revealed that the Ministry of Health has been pressuring the Manaus City Council to use these drugs on its patients.
This Saturday (16), the column showed that Eduardo Pazuello’s portfolio financed a working group in Manaus, with doctors from all over Brazil, to visit the UBS and reinforce the use of these drugs.
