RIO – Another violent night, after the terror caused by robbers in Criciúma, in the south of Santa Catarina, on Tuesday. This time a gang started an attack in the city of Cametá, in the interior of Pará, 235 km from the capital, Belém. The action involved more than 20 heavily armed criminals with rifles and once again targeted an agency of Banco do Brasil. . The hostages were captured in a bar and used as a shield. One of them was killed by a firearm and another resident of the city was hit in the leg, but is not in danger of death.
As in Criciúma, a military police headquarters were also attacked, preventing the security agents from leaving. According to the Ministry of Public Security and Social Defense of Pará (Segup), normality was restored in the municipality in the early morning of this Wednesday, after the arrival of security agents from other cities and regions. Two planes and a boat were used to contain the criminal action.
At least two bank branches were attacked, according to reports from neighbors. One, from Banco do Brasil, is in the City Hall building and was destroyed. The other is from Banpará, the state bank. With approximately 136,000 inhabitants, according to IBGE, Cametá is one of the ten largest cities in Pará.

During the raids, the police teams found a truck that would have been used by the criminals, on a road that connects with the neighboring municipality of Tucuruí. So far no one has been arrested and the public security summit in the city is still in charge of the records and following the evolution of the case.
All of the group’s activity lasted more than an hour, and the gang fled the city in several cars around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by boats, on a route down the Tocantins River. On Twitter, the governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, published that he was already in contact with the state public security summit. “We will do everything possible to ensure that peace is resumed as soon as possible and that the criminals are arrested. My full solidarity with the people of Cameroon,” the governor wrote.

This Wednesday morning, the governor also reported on the social network that he will go to Cametá to follow the records and monitor the investigations. According to him, “the audacity of the criminal group will not go unpunished.”
Also through Twitter, the Ministry of Public Security reported that “from the moment the assault on a banking agency in Cametá was confirmed, teams from the Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE), from the Metropolitan Tactical Ostensive Rounds (Rotam) , from the Battalion of Canine Actions (Bac), the Coordination of Operations and Special Resources (CORE) and two planes from the Pará Public Security Air Group (Graesp) went to support the municipality ”.
