Brasilia – The mayor, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), launched a campaign on measures by Congress during the fight against the Covid-19 crisis on his social networks this Saturday (18). The action comes two days after President Jair Bolsonaro’s attacks on the deputy.
With the so-called “Against coronavirus, Congress acts, does not argue”, in March Maia published posters on projects that have already been approved by the Chamber of Deputies since the beginning of the crisis. Among the proposals, the extension of the validity of medical prescriptions during the pandemic, the ban on the export of respirators and the regulation of telemedicine.
Maia also mentions the project to help states that broke the relationship with the Minister of the Economy, Paulo Guedes, and that still have to be approved by the Senate.
The deputy also included in the list the cut in expenses of R $ 150 million in the expenses of the House, announced on April 7. The cut list includes parliamentary trips, overtime for public officials, as well as the suspension of works and reforms that have not yet begun.
Bolsonaro opened fire on Maia last Thursday, after firing Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta (DEM-MS). In an interview with CNN television, he said his performance was “terrible” and suggested that the congressman was conspiring against his government. In response, Maia said that he will not attack Bolsonaro.
Hours before the president’s interview with CNN, Maia had signed a joint note with the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (DEM-AP), in defense of Mandetta, also affiliated with his party. The day before, the Chamber’s Board of Directors gave Bolsonaro 30 days to present the results of his exams for covid-19 to the Chamber. The same day, Maia reacted to criticism. “The president attacks with an old political trick, with the resignation that wants to change the subject,” said Maia, who said he had no intention of harming the government. “The president is not going to have attacks (from me). He throws stones and Parliament will throw flowers, “he added.
