The various positive cases of Covid-19 in the Flamengo squad, including the players who served in the 2-1 victory over Barcelona de Guayaquil, forced the Ecuadorian club to take an emergency measure even on Tuesday: players and coaching staff remained in quarantine in the team’s training center, which is near the Monumental stadium, where the Libertadores game began, and will be concentrated at least until Saturday.

In an official statement, the club said that players and members of the coaching staff will take the Covid-19 exams on Friday (PCR and rapid tests), and not on Thursday, as previously reported in the report. Other PCR tests are scheduled for Saturday, the day of the next Barcelona game in Quito, for the Ecuadorian Championship. Curiously, the rival will be Independiente del Valle, who beat Flamengo 5-0 in the previous round of the Libertadores.
Barcelona have a Brazilian on their squad, midfielder Gabriel Marques, who entered the second half of Tuesday’s game against Flamengo. In addition to the players who participated in the game, the group also added four players who participated in training this Wednesday: José Angulo, Mario Pineida, Pedro Pablo Velasco and Álvaro Preciado.
– The players are currently concentrated in the complex next to the Monumental stadium, in the building that serves as concentration, waiting for the results of the tests they have to carry out, before Saturday’s game against Independiente del Valle. The PCR tests will tell whether players will be able to play the game, said Ecuadorian journalist Joel Alvarado of TC Televisión in Guayaquil.
Flamengo has 19 positive cases, with 11 players
As of Wednesday night, the list of contaminated Flamengo already reached 11 players, coach Domènec Torrent, two assistants, former player Juan, who works in the football department, doctor Marcio Tannure, vice football Marcos Braz and President Rodolfo Landim.
Among the players, in addition to the seven diagnosed on Sunday, who were offside, four other cases were detected after the game: defenders Rodrigo Caio and Thuler, who started against Barcelona, and reserves Gabriel Batista and Gomes .
