Pitiful and disgusting scenes to say the least! On Monday (2), the date on which the Day of the Dead is celebrated in Brazil, a journalistic team from NSC TV, a Globo subsidiary in Santa Catarina, was attacked while trying to record a story. The agenda spoke of people who were disobeying a municipal decree that prohibits them from staying on the beach.
The reporter Bárbara Barbosa and the cameraman Renato Soder were going to make a live entry directly from the beach of Campeche, in Florianópolis. The intention was to show the large number of people crowding the arena and the inspection – or lack thereof – of the situation. According to the city council decree, everyone has the right to go to the beach to swim in the sea and perform physical exercises, however it is strictly forbidden to stay in the place, and a fine may be imposed on anyone who does not respect these guidelines.
With that said, as soon as the swimmers saw the NSC TV crew, a real freak show began. In the amateur recordings of Barbara’s cell phone, a gray-haired man can be seen threatening his coworker. “Do you want me to break this here?”he said referring to the movie camera. “You won’t break anything!” defended the journalist. At another time, you say that the cameraman “You cannot film people without authorization”even if the beach is a public place.
A few more people begin to gather, including another man in an orange shirt, who becomes irritated by the recording of Barbosa on his cell phone and tries to aggressively remove the device from his hand. “Do not touch My phone!”the reporter resisted. “Then put that down!”the man continued in a tone of authority. “You are not going to touch me. They threaten me here on the beach “Barbara replied as the man tried to get closer to intimidate her.
Here, a lady who accompanied everything simply takes out her cell phone, and when the journalist tries to retrieve the device, the gray-haired man tries cowardly to hold it. When he realizes that Renato is also recording everything on the station camera, the same man threatens to follow him. Meanwhile, Barbara continues to struggle to get her cell phone back.

The scenes recorded by Renato were shown on the news, as well as the photo of the scratches that Barbara suffered from the attacks that occurred in front of the lifeguard station. “I wanted to reinforce that our team was working. What we do is disseminate, inform and demand compliance with standards that we are not the ones who develop. The decree, which was renewed by the city of Florianópolis, says that you can swim in the sea, surf and exercise on the beach, but you cannot stay on the sand ”., reinforced the presenter Laine Valgas.
“Again: the rule belongs to the city of Florianópolis and it is also an ordinance of the Government of the State of Santa Catarina. You have the right to disagree with the decree, but it exists and must be executed under penalty of a fine. If you still do not want to comply, you have no right to attack those who are at work enforcing this rule. Nothing justifies this violence ”, The anchor was outraged. Laine also said that the Municipal Guard and the Military Police were called. In addition, a police report will be recorded on the threat and attacks suffered by Bárbara and Renato.
NSC TV issued a note on the case: “The attack and aggression against the NSC team, this Monday in Praia do Campeche, are an attempt to impede the work of the press, to make the facts known to the public – which is guaranteed by the Federal Constitution. Attitudes like this, which we unfortunately show in the ‘Jornal do Manhã’, are being repeated throughout the country. But they reveal and reinforce the importance of our work. Aggressors will be held accountable for their actions. And we will continue doing what we do: professional, independent and essential journalism for Santa Catarina society “.
The acting governor of Santa Catarina, Daniela Reinehr, spoke on social media. “The attacks suffered by the staff of a television channel who were in the exercise of their duties, on a beach in Florianópolis, are unacceptable. From the moment that violence takes hold, you lose your mind. There is no justification for that “, posted on Twitter.
