The World Bank announced on Friday (30) that the former Minister of Education Abraham Weintraub was re-elected as executive director of the entity.
In a statement, the bank said Weintraub was re-elected by the group of countries (known as a constituency) that represents Brazil, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama, the Philippines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. “Mr. Weintraub will serve a two-year term, starting on November 1, 2020,” he says.
Weintraub stepped down as minister in June this year and says he received an invitation, backed by Bolsonaro, to be the representative director of Brazil and eight other countries at the World Bank. The estimated annual salary is US $ 258,570, equivalent today to R $ 115.8 thousand per month without the 13th, or more than three times the current salary of the minister, of R $ 31 thousand.
The World Bank, based in Washington, is an institution that affects public exposure and controversies of any kind, especially on social media, where Weintraub was very active.
