After the 1-1 draw against América-MG, in the center of Allianz Parque, for the first match of the Copa Brasil semifinal, coach Abel Ferreira identified a problem in Palmeiras’ game system. The Portuguese coach understands that his team is slower on the field.

Abel internally assesses two main reasons for Palmeiras’ slowness on the field: characteristics of the players and physical part. The excess of games worries Abel a lot. There are 15 games in almost 50 days, about one game every three days.

To correct the problem, Abel points to Patrick de Paula’s return to midfield. The player, in the final stage of recovery from a muscle injury, is considered more vertical than the options he currently uses: cases of Danilo, Zé Rafael and even Gabriel Menino. In addition, he can use Gabriel Menino on the sides, both on the side, in the middle and in attack.

Patrick de Paula has been out of the team since the beginning of the month and was closer to coming back after participating in a reduced field activity with the other teammates. Until last Thursday, he was only making a physical transition.

Regarding the physical part and excess of games, Abel can intensify the “rotation” so as not to tire the team and arrive more rested at the semifinal of the Copa Libertadores da América, against River Plate-ARG, in January.

Against América-MG, although it was a decisive match, Abel Ferreira forgave the starters Matías Viña and Luan. The two stayed on the bench, and the Uruguayan entered the second half ahead of the miners.
