Portuguese Abel Ferreira landed in São Paulo on Monday morning to begin his job as a Palmeiras coach. At the airport, the coach answered two questions and spoke about the challenge in Brazil.
– I apologize because I am very tired, they were very intense days, different time zones, night trips. Above all, I am very motivated to make history here. It is a great club, with a great cast, a great academy, it offers all the conditions for a professional to succeed. That’s what seduced me – said Ferreira.
At 41, Abel Ferreira left Greek PAOK to face this challenge in Verdão and replace the ousted Vanderlei Luxembourg. The Portuguese coach’s contract runs until the end of 2022.
– He had two more years of contract, all parties had to abdicate. We know that the demand and demand here is very high, but that is how I like to watch football, with the maximum demand, because that is the only way we can be at the top – added the coach.

Abel Ferreira is one of the highlights of the new generation of Portuguese coaches. The manager earned his first shot at the European football elite in 2017, when he took over at Braga, and quickly stood out.
For Braga himself in the 2017/2018 season, Abel Ferreira led the team to expressive numbers, breaking the club’s record for Portuguese Championship points, season wins and goals.
Since 2019, the Portuguese has worked for PAOK, a club in which he finished the Greek runner-up last year and, this season, he eliminated Benfica, owned by Jorge Jesús, in the Champions League qualifiers.
