Since the start of the covid-19 pandemic, more than 220,000 people have died from the new coronavirus infection. Today, the country has passed the milestone of 9 million infections and, for a week, has maintained an average of more than a thousand deaths a day.

In the past seven days, the average recorded death from coronavirus was 1,049. The information comes from the consortium of press vehicles of which Twitter it’s part, according to data from state health departments.

From yesterday to today, Brazil counted 1,319 new deaths from covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 220,237 since the beginning of the pandemic. There were 64,895 confirmed cases of the disease in the last 24 hours across the country, bringing the number of infected people to 9,000,485.

This does not indicate when the deaths and cases actually occurred, but rather the date they appear on official balance sheets.

The moving averages seen on Monday (25) and Tuesday (26) were, respectively, 1,055 and 1,058, the values were the highest since August 4 (1,066). The variation compared to 14 days ago was 5%, which represents stability, although in very high figures.

Of the regions, only the South fell (-27%). North (93%) was the only region that showed an acceleration. Midwest (15%), Northeast (6%) and Southeast (1%) registered stability.

Of the states, 11 plus the Federal District had stability. Nine sped up and six fell.

According to the Johns Hopkins University, a world reference in the monitoring of covid-19, Brazil is the third country with the highest number of cases of the disease, only behind the United States and India (with 25,504,894 and 10,689,527, respectively) . In deaths, only the US (426,907) ranks ahead of Brazil. The institution released the figures this afternoon.

Brazil today reached more than 1.2 million people vaccinated against the disease. In total, 1,248,821 people have been immunized so far, according to data provided by the health departments of 20 states and the Federal District.

Health data

For the second day in a row, Brazil registered more than 1,200 new deaths caused by covid-19 in a 24-hour interval. The Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday (27) that 1,283 new deaths were recorded from yesterday to today. The country also surpassed the 220,000 mark for deaths caused by the disease.

On Tuesday (26), according to figures from the Ministry, 1,214 new deaths from covid-19 were registered. In all, 220,161 people have died since the pandemic began.

There were 63,520 positive diagnoses for the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the number of infected people across the country has risen to 8,996,876.

According to the federal government, 7,877,337 people recovered from the disease, with another 899,378 being followed.

Experts indicate the calculation of the moving average.

To measure the situation of deaths from covid-19, experts indicate using the moving average of deaths, which calculates the average of records observed in the last seven days. The operation is the most suitable to observe the trend of the statistics, since it balances the abrupt variations of the numbers throughout the week.

The media consortium adopted this period to verify fluctuations in the moving average. We can speak of a fall in the figures when the decrease is greater than 15% if it is verified in the last 14 days, in this case, the period of the last two weeks. If the numbers rise more than 15%, the epidemic accelerates. Intermediate values indicate stability.

  • Espírito Santo: stable (1%)

Butantan considers exporting vaccines before finalizing immunization in SP

The Butantan Institute, linked to the USP (University of São Paulo) and financed by the Government of São Paulo, can sell doses to other countries in South America even if the vaccination of priority groups has not been completed in Brazil or in the state.

According to the director of the institute, Dimas Covas, everything will depend on whether the Ministry of Health buys the 54 million doses of CoronaVac, previously agreed. Otherwise, remittances can be sent to Argentina.

In January, the ministry’s purchase contract for 46 million CoronaVac included the possibility of delivering another 54 million doses later this year. The contract for this second batch, says Butantan, has yet to be signed.

“I offered [as vacinas] to the ministry last week, I expect a response until the end of this week, because next week I will close a contract with countries, starting with Argentina. This statement is important so that you cannot claim that there was no such offer. This offer is being made through a contract, “said Covas, at a press conference at the Palácio dos Bandeirantes this Wednesday (27).

Vehicles gather for information

In response to the decision of the government of Jair Bolsonaro to restrict access to data on the covid-19 pandemic, media Twitter, El Estado de S. Paulo, Folha de S.Paulo, O Globo, G1 and Extra formed a consortium to work collaboratively to seek the necessary information directly from the state health departments of the 27 units of the Federation.

The federal government, through the Ministry of Health, should be the natural source of these figures, but the attitudes of the authorities and the president himself during the pandemic cast doubt on the availability of the data and its veracity.
