Faced with the government’s difficulty in relation to a new social program, congressmen have supported the extension of the decree of public calamity for another three months. The deadline is December 31st.

With the extension, the emergency aid of R $ 300 could also be extended, in addition to giving the government more time to create a new social income program.

Even with government resistance, the plan has been strengthened among congressmen. At the beginning of the pandemic, the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, defended aid in the amount of R $ 200, however, Congress approved five installments in the amount of R $ 600.

The extent of the public calamity had already been mentioned in a debate by the joint commission analyzing spending on the fight against coronavirus earlier this month.

The vice president of the PSD in the Senate, Vanderlan Cardoso (GO), who is also a member of the allied base and the tax reform commission, affirmed his support for the extension. However, the senator points out that the idea is not foreseen by the government.

“I think it will continue for at least another two or three months, at least at the beginning of the year. This pandemic until the end of the year is not going to decrease like this, and the decree is the way, ”said the senator.

Guedes says that emergency aid ends at the end of the year

This week, the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, confirmed that, from the government’s point of view, emergency help will not extend to the year 2021. According to him, the new pandemic coronavirus it is yielding in the country and economic activity is returning.

The minister’s statement came during a videoconference promoted by the investment platforms Empiricus and Vitreo last Monday (23). According to Guedes, the benefit paid to the informal could have a duration of up to one year if the value of the quotas were less, R $ 200, as initially proposed by the economic team.

Guedes, after acknowledging that the emergency aid worth R $ 600 and the extension with quotas of R $ 300 until December had the support of the government, revealed that the new program ended up demanding a lot of resources from the Union.

“The reality is that the disease has subsided and the economy has returned with great force. So, from the government’s point of view, there is no extension of emergency aid, ”he said.

The minister confirmed that at the moment there is political pressure for the benefit to be extended for a longer time. But Guedes confirmed that the actions of the federal government will be based on evidence and that the portfolio will know how to react to a possible emergency situation, which is not in the plans at the moment.
