Given the difficulties of the government in relation to the financing of the Citizen Income, the congressmen have supported the extension for another three months of the decree of public calamity. The deadline is December 31st.
With the extension, the emergency aid of R $ 300 could also be extended, in addition to giving more time to the government to create the Citizen Income, a substitute for Bolsa Família.
Even with resistance from the government, the plan has been strengthened among congressmen. At the beginning of the pandemic, the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, defended aid in the amount of R $ 200, however, Congress approved five installments in the amount of R $ 600.
The extent of the public calamity had already been mentioned in a debate of the joint commission that analyzes the expenses with the fight against the coronavirus, earlier this month.
The leading PSD deputy in the Senate, Vanderlan Cardoso (GO), who is also a member of the allied base and the tax reform commission, affirmed his support for the extension. However, the senator points out that the idea is not foreseen by the government.
“I think it will continue for at least another two or three months, at least at the beginning of the year. This pandemic until the end of the year is not going to decrease like this, and the decree is the way to go, ”said the senator.
Paulo Guedes and emergency aid until 2021
The Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, reported that the emergency help Brazilians can be paid in 2021 if the country is hit by a new wave of coronavirus.
“We made it very clear to everyone. If there is a second wave in Brazil, we already have the mechanisms. We digitized 64 million Brazilians. We know who they are, where they are and what they need to survive, “Guedes said in a conference call with the Bloomberg agency.
Still, according to the minister, the emergency aid was initially designed with a smaller amount to be paid over a long period, but the political class has changed the figures.
Guedes planned the payment of R $ 200 to the beneficiaries, but Congress demanded R $ 500 and President Jair Bolsonaro increased it to R $ 600, to maintain the paternity of the amount.
