President Jair Bolsonaro spent Saturday (25) at the Palácio da Alvorada, the official residence of the Presidency of the Republic, where he received the visits of the ministers Jorge Oliveira (General Secretariat) and Augusto Heleno (Institutional Security) in the morning.

The director of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin), Alexandre Ramagem, who should be made official as the new director general of the Federal Police, also attended the meeting. According to G1 columnist Cristiana Lôbo, Ramage has already been chosen to replace Maurício Valeixo on paper.

Jorge Oliveira, Heleno and Ramagem met with the President of the Republic for approximately one hour. They did not speak to the press when they left the Alvorada Palace. Oliveira is cited to replace former minister Sergio Moro, who resigned from the Ministry of Justice on Friday (24).

Moro left the Justice Ministry alleging that Jair Bolsonaro tried to interfere politically in the work of the Federal Police, an accusation that the president denies.

This Friday, the former judge showed TV Globo a replay of a conversation with Bolsonaro in which the president suggests changing the PF command due to investigations involving allies of the chief executive.

Very close to the Bolsonaro family, Jorge Oliveira is the president’s favorite to replace Sergio Moro. However, the Minister of the General Secretariat has informed interlocutors of concerns about the possibility of taking over the Ministry of Justice.

The retired military lawyer and police officer estimate that it will not be good for the government if his role is confirmed. Oliveira believes that ties to the president’s family may lead to even harsher criticism of the president, which could weaken the government.

According to sources, the idea so far is to try to find a name other than Oliveira. But the scenario remains uncertain because the president says he wants Jorge Oliveira as the new Minister of Justice and, according to the interlocutors, he may have no other choice. Oliveira decided not to speak until an official decision was made.
