Copersucar designer Ricardo Divila dies at 74 in France | Big prize

At 74 years old, Ricardo Divila died at dawn on Saturday (25), in France. Designer of Copersucar in Formula 1 and with several appearances in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Brazilian had recently suffered a stroke and had been battling pancreatic cancer. Divila’s loss was confirmed by David Luff, who was chief mechanic of the Brazilian team in F1 and a friend of Ricardo.

Born in São Paulo and with an academic background in aeronautical engineering from the FEI (Faculty of Industrial Engineering), Divila was a designer at Copersucar-Fittipaldi, created by Wilson Fittipaldi Jr. He also served as technical director of the only genuinely Brazilian team that is part of of the F1 world grid, between 1975 and 1982.

The first Copersucar-Fittipaldi cars, with the initials FD, refer to the last names Fittipaldi and Divila.

In addition to a long history in F1, with the work done in teams such as Ligier, Life, Fondmetal and Minardi, Divila was noted for the work done together with Nissan in Japan, being one of the key figures in the automaker’s project for motorsport The engineer has worked on several 24-hour editions of Le Mans and on teams from the old Formula 3000, including Eddie Jordan.
