Former Justice Minister Sergio Moro showed on Friday (24) to TV Globo an exchange of messages between him and President Jair Bolsonaro, which took place on Thursday (23), in which Bolsonaro demanded a change in command of the Police Federal.

Earlier on Friday, when he announced that he had decided to resign, Moro said Bolsonaro attempted to interfere politically in the PF by deciding to fire the now-former CEO of the corporation Maurício Valeixo.

Later, also in a statement, Bolsonaro stated that Moro’s statements were unfounded and that he had not tried to interfere with the Federal Police.

Following Bolsonaro’s pronouncement, TV Globo asked Moro for evidence that the statements were well founded. The former minister then showed the image of an exchange of messages between him and the president, which took place on Thursday.

The contact is identified by the “new president”, indicating that it is Bolsonaro’s most recent number. The image shows that the president sent Moro the link to a report on the website “The Antagonist” according to which the PF is “in the queue” for ten to 12 Bolsonar deputies.

The president then wrote: “Another reason for the exchange,” referring to the change in the direction of the Federal Police.

Sergio Moro responded to the president, explaining that the investigation had not been requested by the then FP director, Maurício Valeixo. Moro sent the message: “This investigation is being carried out by Minister Alexandre, in the STF”, referring to Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

Moro continues: “Errands determined by him, ruptures determined by him, searches determined by him.” And he concludes: “We will speak later, at 0900”, referring to the meeting that the two would have.

Supreme Court Nomination

The National Journal also accused Sergio Moro of proving that he had not conditioned the change in command of the Federal Police on his appointment to the Federal Supreme Court, an accusation made by President Bolsonaro in the statement.

The former minister showed JN the image of an exchange of messages with federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PSL), Bolsonaro’s first ally. He was even with the president on Friday during the speech.

Deputy Carla Zambelli said she would not comment on the message exchange.

In the message exchange, Carla Zambelli says: “Please, minister, accept the damage”, referring to Alexandre Ramagem, director general of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin). Ramage is one of Jair Bolsonaro’s candidates for the General Directorate of the Federal Police.

The attached part of the proposal for Sergio Moro to accept the change in the PF in exchange for his appointment in the Federal Supreme Court.

“And go to the STF in September,” sent the deputy. “I promise to help,” he added. “Make JB promise,” he added.

Sergio Moro, then, rejects the proposal: “Dear, I am not for sale.”

Carla Zambelli, then, continues arguing: “Minister, please, millions of Brazilians will fall apart”

Then he responds to Moro’s message that it would not be for sale. “I know,” he says. “By God, I know,” he adds.

“If there’s someone who’s not on the budget, it’s you.” The word “quote” in this case appears to be “sale” with a typo.

Moro ends the conversation by saying “Let’s wait, there are already people talking there.” According to the former minister, it was a reference to the allies’ attempt to convince the president to change his mind.
