The 2002 World Cup champions, former midfielder Vampeta and former striker Luizão accumulated titles and stories in Brazilian soccer.
At Corinthians, in addition to sharing the dressing room between 1999 and 2002, the duo was a partner in acquiring a player who excelled on the field: former right-back Maurinho. It is good to remember that the FIFA legislation allowed the participation of third parties in the purchase of players until 2015.
Today the story is told by the former striker, who also defended clubs such as Palmeiras, São Paulo, Santos, Grêmio, Flamengo, Botafogo and Vasco. It all happened in mid-2001.
– The one who accomplished this was my brother Jocimar, who was also a player, played for Novorizontino. I saw Maurinho playing for Rio Preto, in a National-SP x Rio Preto game. He impressed me with his physical strength. Rio Preto had two less and was running from one side to the other. I invited Vampeta and Edílson to buy it with me, they were R $ 100 thousand, but only Vampeta agreed.

Luizão then bought 50% of the rights of the right that belonged to a group of businessmen and took it to Etti Jundiaí, who had an association with Parmalat: the club would become Paulista in 2002. He says he did not even offer a player for the Corinthians board.
– We lend it to Etti first and then to Santos. It broke. I paid my part on the spot, Vampeta only paid after he stood out (laughs). I bought the other 50% and sold that portion to Cruzeiro. There he won the triple crown, came to the Brazilian team. Unfortunately, after suffering knee injuries, he underwent complicated surgery in São Paulo.
According to Luizão, this was the only investment he made as a player during his career as an athlete. The striker says there was only one confrontation with Maurinho, even in 2002, in a 2-2 draw between Corinthians and the Jundiaí team. Neither of them scored.
– I did not sit down with a club to negotiate Maurinho, but many people came to me to make a proposal. The Corinthians knew everything. For Cruzeiro, the agent was Daniel Pereira. But Maurinho was very good, he used to work alone.
