The Government of Minas Gerais has extended the duration of the purple wave of the Minas Consciente program in 13 of the 14 macro-regions of health in the State, including the Southeast, which has Juiz de Fora as its main city and reference. Thus, the most restrictive norms of the state protocols to combat the Covid-19 pandemic will remain in the municipality and the region until at least April 11. A relaxation of the restrictions is studied every seven-day cycle.

Juiz de Fora and the region entered the purple wave of the Conscious Mines program on March 13. Since then, they have followed the more restrictive rules of state protocols. Before, however, as of March 8, the city already lived under more rigid goals and basically with commercial activities restricted to those considered essential, since the City Council had already placed the municipality in the purple belt of the JF for Life program , establishing municipal regulations to combat the pandemic.

The purple bands of municipal and state protocols are considered extreme measures and are implemented when there is a real threat of collapse of the health network of the city, the region or the entire state. Precisely for this reason, as of March 15, the Government of Minas Gerais decreed the Minas Gerais purple wave for all the health macro-regions of Minas Gerais. In the last week, for example, the state registered a record of new reported cases of contamination by the new coronavirus.

The northern triangle advances towards the red wave

On Wednesday (31), however, the Government of Minas announced that, after spending about 30 days in the purple wave, the macro-region of Saúde Triângulo do Norte, the first to enter the most restrictive phase of the plan, showed improvement in all indicators related to Covid-19. Thus, the town will move towards the red wave of state protocols.

“The decision was made this Wednesday by the Extraordinary Covid-19 Committee – a group that meets weekly to assess the evolution of the pandemic in the state – and will take effect from April 5,” says the State. The Government also affirms that “the other localities have not yet presented a sustained drop in the rate of deaths and occupation in ICU beds and, therefore, they must follow the most restrictive measures until at least April 11.”

Faced with the maintenance of a worrying scenario and the exhaustion of the health network, Governor Romeu Zema (Novo) asks for caution. “We had another record week, both in Brazil and in Minas. Unfortunately, mortality and bed occupancy rates are increasing in most regions. We continue with our bed expansion efforts, despite the lack of resources, mainly human and, more recently, of supplies. We have the support of the population to overcome this stage as soon as possible, “he said.

According to the newspaper O Tempo, from Belo Horizonte, the measures will be detailed in a press conference with the Secretary of State for Health, Fábio Baccheretti, at 2 in the afternoon.

The number of cases grows 7% in the state; deaths, 8%

Figures from the Government of Minas indicate that, in the last week, the state presented an increase of 6.9% in the number of cases and 8.1% in deaths. “The incidence of the disease has grown by 20% in the last 7 days and 41% in 14 days,” says the Zema Administration.

“The positivity is currently 43%, which means that this is the percentage of positive results for Covid-19 among patients with symptoms similar to those of the flu,” says a note from the Government, which reinforces that the incidence of the disease it has also been increasing in cities with less than 30,000 inhabitants. “Currently, there are only 93 municipalities of this size with less than 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days. In the last week, the number was 141 “.
