Waiting for two Uruguayans
As the Uruguayan Championship is not over yet, the country has so far not met its two representatives in the group stage. The Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) had until February 22 to indicate to Conmebol the team that will enter the second phase, a place that was left with Montevideo Wanderers.
The AUF offered the place to Rentistas, Apertura champion, Nacional, Intermediate champion, as well as Montevideo City Torque and Peñarol, second and third in the consolidated table. However, none accepted, and all will continue to fight for the two places in the country in the group stage, which will be known in the final in Uruguay, days before the draw for the Libertadores group stage. Montevideo Wanderers accepted the vacancy in the pre-Libertadores and will face Unión Española in the second phase.
The groups will be known by lottery on April 9, in Luque, Paraguay, where the Conmebol headquarters is located. The pots will be distributed according to the ranking Conmebol Libertadores 2021. The clashes begin on April 20. Palmeiras and Flamengo must be protagonists.
The first phase of the pre-Libertadores, with three clashes, ended this week. THE University of Quito eliminated Liverpool from Uruguay (defeat 2-1 at home and victory 3-0 at home), Caracas beat Universidad César Vallejo with 0-0 in Lima and 2-0 at home, and the Guarani He played for Royal Parí with a 4-1 win in Bolivia and a 1-1 draw in Paraguay.
