Restriction measures against the coronavirus continue throughout Bahia. The governor of the State, Rui Costa, announced that the Toque de Recolhido will remain in force until April 1. In Salvador and cities of the Metropolitan Region (RMS), the decree that provides for the closure of all non-essential activities will be extended until 5 am on Monday morning (8).
The decision made in Salvador and RMS was made after a meeting of the consortium of city councils in the region on Tuesday (2). The mayor of Salvador, Bruno Reis, said that he made this decision based on the harsh reality faced by the management of health networks. For the interior of the state, with the exception of RMS, all activities can resume on Wednesday (3), but with a closing time set for 8 pm and opening after 5 pm.
In a post on social networks, at 4 in the afternoon, Bruno commented on the decision to extend the confinement and justified saying that the situation in the capital’s health units is prior to the collapse.
“We made this decision based on what we are seeing: the harsh reality that mayors are facing to manage our health system. Today, in Salvador, we woke up with 96 patients waiting for the ICU and nursing beds, there are 58 ICUs. Our UPAs are already full, with patients in the corridors and on stretchers, and we had to adopt these measures to prevent a worse evil from happening in Salvador, ”said the mayor. According to the State Department of Health (Sesab), around 300 patients are waiting for the regulation of ICU beds throughout Bahia.
The mayor of Lauro de Freitas, Moema Gramacho affirmed that the suspension of the sale of alcoholic beverages will take place again at 5 o’clock in the afternoon next Friday (5). There is also the possibility that the delivery service can be extended from 11pm to 11:59 pm.
Vaccines
Rui affirmed that mass vaccination is the only possible way to save a considerable amount of lives and guaranteed that the State looks for alternatives to guarantee immunization.
Brazil cannot keep only two vaccines, with a limited quantity. We entered the Justice, in the STF today, requesting authorization not only to buy, but to apply vaccines that are already approved in other countries, ”said the Governor.
