Enem 2020 -whose second day of testing concluded this Sunday (24) – had a total abstention of 55.3%, according to Inep, the body responsible for the test. Of the more than 5.5 million subscribers, only 2,470,396 subscribers took the test on the two application Sundays.

According to the president of Inep (National Institute for Educational Studies and Research), Alexandre Lopes, the abstention rate of 55.3% was higher than expected by the institution. However, it did not say what the expected index was.

“It was more than we expected, but I like to look at the glass as half full, 2.5 million people managed to make Enem in this pandemic environment. Other countries did not.

According to the Inep, the abstention rate of 55.3% is preliminary and students from Amazonas, who did not take the test due to the situation of the covid-19 pandemic in the state, are excluded from the account.

“The definitive data on gifts and absences depend on the determination of the investor consortium and will be informed in the disclosure of the results,” said Inep in today’s presentation on Enem 2020.

Minister says abstention is understandable, but unjustifiable

Asked about the comment by the Minister of Education, Milton Ribeiro, who said that “the abstention is understandable, but not justified”, Lopes did not respond directly and said that “the decision [de fazer a prova ou não] it’s individual, that doesn’t matter to me ”.

According to the president of Inep, “what really matters to Inep is to ensure the opportunity for those who want to do Enem to do so.”

Ministry informs that tomorrow the resource for the reapplication of tests begins

Inep announced today that students who wish to reapply the test can apply through the institution’s website starting tomorrow (25). In short, the new application will be for those who did not take the test due to the overcrowded classrooms and for students who did not take the test because they had an infectious disease.

According to the InepIn addition to the two days of testing, 18,210 people stopped taking the test claiming to have infectious diseases.

The president of the institute, however, said that people who had logistical difficulties to take the test will not be able to take the Enem again, since this is not provided for in the regulations.

In Santa Catarina, for example, many people lost the race in Florianópolis due to the heavy rains that hit the city today and left several regions of the city impassable.

Amazonas and two cities in Rondônia will have a test in February

Inep also announced that in the State of Amazonas, strongly hit by a second wave of the covid-19 pandemic and by a new strain of the Sars-Cov-2 virus, with faster transmission, and in the municipalities of Espigão d´ Oeste and Rolim de Moura, in Rondônia, whose municipal authorities chose to reapply Enem on another date.

The exam for students from Amazonas and these two cities will be held on February 23 and 24. According to Lopes, precisely because of the transmissibility of the new strain of the covid-19 virus, the institute, in partnership with the state government, is “looking for more schools and more classrooms to disperse more students.”
