A tourist fell from a height of 15 meters from a bridge that passes over the Itacaiúnas river, in Marabá, in the southeast of Pará. According to witnesses, he was still seen trying to swim, but disappeared into the waters.
José Manuel de Cristo, 66, is from the city of Rio Branco do Sul, in Paraná, and was visiting his family in the city. He was in the company of his niece, who recorded everything on her cell phone.
At one point, he moved to the other side of the bridge protection and the two commented that attention should be doubled, due to the possibility of falls.
Seconds later, he had to drop his cell phone to try to save his uncle, who had slipped. The niece was still screaming for help when she saw that the old man had fallen into the river.
Marabá firefighters received the call and sent officers and a boat to search. “At first, the garrison made a search and they did not find him, so divers were called,” said Fire Lieutenant Avila.
Until 6:00 pm today, José Manuel had not been found. Searches will resume tomorrow.
