The Minister General and Health, Eduardo Pazuello, said today that all states will receive within 24 hours the first doses of the vaccine developed by Oxford / AstraZeneca, with priority for the state of Amazonas, which is experiencing an unprecedented crisis after increase in the number of covid- 19 cases.
“The cargo will be sent to Fiocruz [no Rio], which will mark and check the received material. The batches will be separated and starting tomorrow, when these batches are ready, probably later in the day, we will send them all over the country, ”said Pazuello, in a quick speech.
“We will give priority to the Amazon and its capital, Manaus, which is currently experiencing the most critical situation in our country. And this priority is evidenced in an agreement with the governors, where 5% of that first shipment will be destined for where the largest country, which is in Manaus ”, he added.
Pazuello ended his speech saying that “no Brazilian is more important than another, and no state is more important than the other”, in clear reference to the governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), with whom he disagreed several times in recent months .
The Emirates plane with the two million doses of the Oxford / AstraZeneca vaccine, from India, landed today at Guarulhos airport (SP) around 5:27 pm. The vaccine, which has an efficacy of 70.4%, was produced by the Indian Serum laboratory and purchased by the Ministry of Health.
The shipment was received by Eduardo Pazuello, Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo and the Minister of Communications, Fábio Faria.
After customs procedures, the cargo continues on a Azul company plane to Galeão airport, in Rio de Janeiro, with a scheduled landing for 10 pm. The president of Fiocruz (Fundação Oswaldo Cruz), Nísia Trindade, and Minister Pazuello will receive the doses, which will be transported, with an escort from the Federal Police (PF), to the Fiocruz warehouse.
Earlier, President Jair Bolsonaro (non-party) used Twitter to thank Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for freeing up the export of vaccines. “Brazil is honored to have a great partner to overcome the global hurdle. Thank you for helping us with the exports of vaccines from India to Brazil,” the president wrote.
