A bill that is being processed by the Chamber of Deputies aims to force private health insurance providers to pay for covid-19 vaccines to their clients. The text of the proposal determines the cost in cases of public health emergencies of international importance, such as the current pandemic.

Author of Bill 5553/20, Deputy Rejane Dias (PT-PI) believes that the current situation fits with her proposal, with the perspective that the Brazilian government may have difficulties and take months to be able to vaccinate a large part of the population. population.

“As the government will not be able to offer the vaccine for free to the entire population, and must prioritize the groups in which the disease may represent a greater risk to health, we intend to guarantee access to people who pay for health plans to immunization against covid-19, “said the deputy.

In Brazil, the doses of the CoronaVac and AstraZeneca / Oxford vaccine, the two that receive the approval of Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) for their application, will be distributed by the Ministry of Health. However, Sputnik V, a Russian vaccine that has already begun to be produced in the country by União Química, aims to supply both the public and private sectors.

Last Saturday (16), Anvisa rejected a request for emergency use of Sputnik V. The day before yesterday, the minister of the STF (Federal Supreme Court), Ricardo Lewandwski, gave the federal agency 72 hours to provide more information on the analysis of the request.

Meanwhile, representatives from União Química and Anvisa met yesterday and today to discuss the request for emergency use.
