The journalist Ruy Castro mocked the Bolsonaristas who attack him on social networks after suggesting, in a column published in this Sunday (10) edition of “Folha de S. Paulo”, that Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro commit suicide . After the text went viral on Twitter, Bolsonarista politicians mobilized to attack it.

Without a profile on social networks, Castro became aware of the impact of his text after being contacted by Twitter. To respond to the attacks, the journalist paraphrased Bolsonaro’s statements during the covid-19 pandemic: “It was just a suggestion for Trump and Bolsonaro, they don’t have to accept it. And we’re all going to die one day, right? Besides, no I am an undertaker. ” he mocked.

Ruy Castro’s column gained repercussion on Twitter after fellow journalist Ricardo Noblat, a columnist for the magazine “Veja”, shared it on his profile, with 1.1 million followers. The topic became one of the most talked about among Brazilian users this Sunday.

The Minister of Justice, André Mendonça, affirmed that he requested to open an investigation against the two journalists, for the crime of inciting suicide, provided for in the Penal Code:

In the text, Castro – who biographed historical figures such as Garrincha, Nelson Rodrigues and Carmen Miranda – made a parallel with the death of Getúlio Vargas and said that Donald Trump should follow him if he wanted to go down in history as a hero. And he recommended that President Jair Bolsonaro do the same, given his habit of following what Trump does: “If Trump chooses suicide, Bolsonaro should imitate him. But why wait for defeat in the elections? Why not do it today? Now, right now? For the sake of Brazil, no minute without Bolsonaro will be too soon, “he wrote.

Several Bolsonarista politicians, such as federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PSL-SP) – third son of Jair Bolsonaro, former deputy Roberto Jefferson (PTB-RJ) and federal deputies Carlos Jordy (PSL-RJ) and Daniel Silveira (PSL-RJ) attacked Castro and Noblat.

Faced with the repercussion, the magazine “Veja” published a note about the episode:

Given the aftermath of the episode, Noblat posted a series of posts on Twitter defending himself. He said that his religion does not allow him to wish the death of anyone, and stressed that he reproduces articles that appear in the press on a daily basis and, in his opinion, will gain repercussion. He ended with a provocation: “At last: long live President Jair Bolsonaro so he can reap what he sows.”

This is the second time that Mendonça has tried to hold Noblat responsible for the criticism of Bolsonaro. In June, he called for an investigation to be launched based on the National Security Law, created during the dictatorship. military – targeting Noblat and cartoonist Aroeira. The move came after the journalist posted on Twitter a cartoon of Aroeira where Bolsonaro spun a red cross, symbolizing hospitals in a swastika.
