The Butantan Institute, responsible for the production of the vaccine against covid-19 CoronaVac, is studying doubling the production of daily doses of the immunizer since May. Currently, the agency manufactures one million vials of the vaccine daily and the goal is to produce two million doses per day.

The institute said today to the Twitter We have two vaccine production lines: one dedicated to immunization against the Influenza virus and the other totally focused on the vaccine against the new coronavirus. Until May, the agency may be able to manufacture all scheduled flu doses. If that happens, the scientists will return the two pot fronts to the Sinovac Biotech laboratory immunizer.

However, the decision is still under study and must be reconciled with the campaign for other products.

Anvisa emergency use request

Today, Butantan formalized CoronaVac’s request for the emergency request with Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency), which can take up to ten days to be analyzed. If approved, immunization of risk groups such as the elderly and health professionals will be authorized.

Also today, Fiocruz (Fundação Oswaldo Cruz) placed an order for the emergency use of 2 million doses of the vaccine developed by the University of Oxford in collaboration with the Astrazeneca laboratory. The foundation said the final registration request (which allows mass vaccination) must be made before January 15.

In a note, Anvisa explained the details of the process and said that the first 24 hours will be for the review of the documents presented by Butantan. “If important information is missing, Anvisa may pause the term and request additional information from the laboratory,” the note says.

According to the agency, only the request for emergency use was made. Butantan did not request the registration of the vaccine, which is a definitive authorization for mass immunization and commercialization with bull.

Yesterday, the Minister of Health, General Eduardo Pazuello, said that vaccination in Brazil should begin on January 20 in the “best case” or, at the latest, at the end of March in case of problems. The expectation is that the immunizers produced by Fiocruz and Butantan will be used.

In an interview with BandNews radio, the State Secretary of Health, Jean Gorinchteyn, stated that there is a possibility that São Paulo, which predicted the start of immunization on January 25, anticipates the date if the National Immunization Program starts earlier .
